Eliminating the Language Barrier
Funded Oct 23, 2022After having these translation devices for the past couple months, we're starting to rely on them less and less! They're working! The students have made friends with each other, regardless of what language they speak. Their confidence grows every day. I feel that being able to communicate with the translator has also made my relationships grow with each student. It has always been very challenging to build relationships without being able to speak freely and to just be myself. This was the best thing I ever did! Thank you so very much for allowing these students to grow and learn just like everyone else! They've also been amazing when it comes to speaking with families!”

Near or Far, We Can Do It!
Funded Sep 3, 2020This year has been extremely difficult. Our district was remote until March 29th. Teaching online has presented many challenges. Fortunately, I was able to get the supplies, donated by all of you, into the homes of my students. With everything being virtual, it was so nice to watch the kids use their dry erase markers to solve math problems. They also loved using their flash cards with each other in small breakout rooms! While we couldn't be together physically, your supplies made learning seem a bit more normal.
The kids were so excited and appreciative that strangers would care about them! Now that we have been back in school for a week, we've been able to use our new lap desks! The kids think these are great! Now that the weather is starting to warm up, we will definitely be using them more often while we learn outside. They're especially useful because they can easily be cleaned.
We all thank you from the bottom of our hearts! We are so lucky to have people who care about our children, like you.
My next project will likely be to get more lap desks. I don't have enough for every student at the moment. These desks have been such a hit, I can see myself getting outdoors to learn more often even when this pandemic is over.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Ippolito

Funded Aug 25, 2016Your extremely generous donation has changed the way my students feel about social studies. Prior to having these text books, we didn't have a consistent resource we would use to teach about the American Revolution, Paul Revere, the voyage on the Mayflower an Colonial Times. These books are kid friendly, packed with information, and engaging. I was able to create questions and writing prompts to go along with each book. We also did an experiment after reading, "If You Lived in Colonial Times." We went through a normal school day without using electricity in the classroom. Boy, was that difficult! I realized that 90% of was I do today is done with technology. We had a dunce corner for students who misbehaved and we even ate quietly, while standing up. We made horn books for the students to read and practice their cursive. They even had to write using a quill pen! It was quite the experience. The students then went on to write about their experience during the simulation. It was no surprise that they like living today much better!
Next month, we will have a 17th century Pilgrim, from Plimoth Plantation, visit our classroom. We're excited to learn more about what life was like during colonial times.
Thank you again for your generous donations. Without these books, my students would not have had such wonderful experiences learning about our country's history. Learning should be fun and memorable!”
