  • Every Learning Supply Counts

    Funded Aug 4, 2022

The first week of schools was a week of joy and creativity for my students and I. Being able to start the school year with all the necessary basic school supplies made a such a difference. My students were excited to participate during group activities due to the colorful charts and accessible materials they have to complete classwork. The ink for the printer provided colorful instructions. The crayons, glue, and classroom decorations brought ideas and imagination from their mind to the papers. Having plenty of items for everyone to use at once without having to wait for available materials kept the lessons going fluently. I am forever grateful for your support and generosity. Every one of my students feel so special because they desk have the necessary supplies needed to access the lessons. I remembered one of my students saying, "Look we have new pencils, crayons, scissors" and I felt such a warm feeling. Thank you for all your support.”

  • Basic Supplies for Academic Success

    Funded Aug 12, 2022

I am very grateful with your support and donations. My students with special needs have a hard time grasping language concepts such grammar, sequencing, labeling items and organizing ideas/thoughts. The materials provided through your donations made it possible for my students to understand some of these language concepts. I am very grateful with your support and donations. My students with special needs have a hard time grasping language concepts such grammar, sequencing, labeling items and organizing ideas/thoughts. The materials provided through your donations made it possible for my students to understand some of these language concepts through the use of adapted books. These adapted books have been modified to make reading accessible to students with special needs. Adapted books make pictures moveable, use simple text, use sentence strips etc. My students have made lots of progress understating language concepts. Thank you so much for choosing to help my students through your donations”

  • Give Me a Voice

    Funded May 29, 2022

I want to start by thanking everyone of you whose donations made it possible for my students to obtain these devices. Many of my students are nonverbal. They depend on the use of technology to express their wants and needs. Through the use of apps on the iPads such text to speech, go talk, and proloquo; they are now able to communicate with others. My students have been able to participate in class activities through the use of these iPads by pressing pictures on the iPad that translate their thoughts. My students are most excited about the quickness in which their ideas are related to others with the devices. One student in particular I have was most impacted by the use of the iPads. He was not responding to the use of picture symbols to communicate on a communication book. When presented with the same symbols on the iPad, he was amazed. The audio and animation of these symbols on the iPad caught his attention and his intention to communicate. I am very grateful for your support and donations.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Hernandez

These iPads will serve as training devices to teach our students how to use technology to comment, request and initiate conversations with peers and adults. It will also allow them to navigate their community once they learned how to use the iPad to voice out their thoughts. Using the accessibility features of iPad, non-verbal students with autism will be able to socially interact with others using apps such as Gotalk, and Text-Speech. The iPad will give them a voice, allowing them to become more independent, and active participants during class discussions/ group activities. Using the iPad to communicate will also increase their level of involvement during school and community events.
