My students are all native Spanish speakers. Some of them are newly arrived to the country and have never experienced schooling in their country. While others have a limited amount of English proficiency. A portion of my students also have an IEP and receive special services during the school day such as speech, guidance, physical therapy, and occupational therapy. My students' families try their best to help their child yet often times have difficulty because of the language barrier. Our school is located in a heavily populated section where there is a lot of overcrowding among the different grades. In spite of the overcrowding, our school embraces the diverse types of students we have and encourage a sense of community within the building. Our students' families come from a low socioeconomic status. Although they try their best to help their child often times they have difficulty because of the language barrier.
