  • Family Time Un-Maker Space

    Funded Oct 11, 2019

The students couldn't wait to to sign up to bring the un-maker kits home to work on with their families. Many families helped contribute to our kits via donations of unused electronics that could be used to disassemble. Several students brought home kits over winter break and when they brought them back they were very excited to have shared that experience with their families.

The kits taught students how to use critical thinking to take things apart, explore how they worked, research additional information, and try to put it back together. Many students said the hardest part was reassembly and it gave them a new appreciation for how things are made.

Students are signing up to take the kits home, and we will be rotating out the electronics items in them to keep them new and interesting. Each kit also has a logbook in it so that we can see how the students are interacting with the kits at home and it is interesting to see how different students make their own discoveries.”

  • Earning and Spending Money with Classroom Jobs

    Funded Sep 16, 2019

Thank you for funding Earning and Spending Money with Classroom Jobs.

To introduce students to the rewards available for them to purchase with their classroom reward dollars, we did a whole-class project with first graders in the Innovation Lab making tote bags. Each student used the Cricut software to design their name letter and a shape. They each cut their letter and shape on the cricut using the heat press vinyl, and with parent volunteers used the Cricut Heat Press to adhere them to the totes. The students were so amazed at how easy and fun it was to make their Halloween tote bags using the Cricut Easy Press.

Many students returned after Halloween and were so excited to share that they used their new bags for trick-or-treating. They can't wait to earn and save classroom rewards so that they can make more fun things with the Cricut Easy Press.”

  • Lunchtime STEM Activity Rewards for Classroom Money

    Funded Sep 23, 2019

The students couldn't wait to come to the Innovation Lab to do projects with our new Lego WeDo kits! The first class of students to try them had such an amazing experience discovering all the fun things they could build and control. When they realized they could program the Lego motors and lights themselves using their tablets, they were thrilled!

It was such a fun project that other students are asking me when it will be their turn!

These Lego WeDo kits are such a great interactive tool that combine problem solving with coding and building in a fun and engaging way. Since the kits are designed for two students to work on together, they also promote teamwork and communication.

The students were also delighted to see the new drawstring backpacks that that will be used with the Cricut heat press to make custom library book bags. They are already planning what designs they will be making. Additionally, they loved using the new covers with their Spheros robots. They came in particularly useful when playing robot tag.

All these fun STEAM projects also teach them relevant lessons in financial literacy. They are now working extra hard to earn their classroom behavior rewards in order to spend extra time with the Lego WeDo kits, make their books bags, and have more robot fun.”

  • STEM Activities as Rewards for Classroom Money

    Funded Sep 22, 2019

The students had a great experience using the new Lego WeDo kits, and they keep asking when they will get to use them again! They really enjoyed building the activities in the kits and learning how to control the motors and lights with their tablets. The kits are great across several grade levels, as the projects vary from building a simple snail and progress to complex moving rovers.

The Lego WeDo kits are an amazing balance of both lego building and coding, and they manage to teach students problem solving skills in an innovative way. In addition, the kits encourage teamwork, communication and sharing as one kit is designed for two students to use together.

The technic pieces also found much excitement as the students couldn't wait to build attachments onto their robots. They are already planning out how to design pieces to pick up or move objects.

Thank you for your donations, as this project also helped spark financial literacy, as it motivates the students to save their classroom rewards to use on these fun activities.”

  • Using Money Earned from Classroom Jobs to Buy STEM Activities

    Funded Sep 22, 2019

Thank you so much for your generous donations to this project. The students faces lit up when they saw the fun new Lego WeDo kits they would be using. They were incredibly excited that the Legos would connect to their tablets and they could control the projects motors and lights through their own program code.

The Lego WeDo kits are such innovative tools that merge engineering and coding with fun projects that start simple, and get progressively more complex as the students learn. They also teach important lessons about collaboration and teamwork, since one kit is designed for two students to share.

The students were also thrilled to see the new pencil bags that that will be used with the Cricut heat press to make custom bags. They are already talking about what designs they will be making.

These projects not only get them excited about STEAM activities, but also teach them important lessons in financial literacy, as they are working extra hard to earn their classroom behavior rewards in order to use them to purchase more time with the Lego WeDo kits and make their pencil bags.”

    Funded Sep 18, 2019

The excitement on my students faces was priceless when they saw the new Lego WeDo kits. They couldn't wait to use them, and when they did, they were blown away with how fun they were, and how easy the instructions were to understand. They loved using the tablets to program and control the lights and motors.

The Lego WeDo kits are fun, educational resources that encourage collaboration and teamwork, since one kit is meant to be shared by two students. They also foster a connection between coding and building in a interesting way.

My project is for supplies to use with our Wonder Robots in our Innovation Lab for project-based learning. This year the students will be introduced to both programming skills and design skills with Wonder Robots in their project-based learning adventures. The Wonder Workshop Build Brick Extensions and Technic Series Parts will be used by the students to design and build special attachments onto the robots in order to have the robots do specific tasks. The 20 compartment roll file cart will help the students keep their robot mats organized so that they will be ready to begin their project-based learning lab experiences in a timely manner.
