Flexible seating allows students to feel more comfortable in the classroom, take charge of their learning, and make the choices that work best for them. When students work productively, there are fewer disruptions, which leads to a positive classroom community. Currently, my students are choosing to work in a variety of locations in our room such as: at a desk, laying on the floors, or sitting on random chairs at tables purchased at garage sales. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive to their peers when they are given a comfortable choice of where to work. The table with benches I have selected will help my students by giving them an alternative seating option to make more effective choices. It will allow students to explore new seating options. I have seen how choice can positively affect my students work and demeanor and hope that the additional options will help us grow even more!
