The students that I teach are amazing. I have a mixture of 9th and 10th graders in my drum line. The majority of my students are first time drummers and are super excited to learn how to play different drums. Though we are a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) school, our students want to express themselves through music. Drum line is where they get that chance. These students are fast learners and are ready to make music the right way. Even though they do not have drums to play on, they come to class with positive attitudes and they play with everything that they have to offer. These students are resilient. They've been through so much like Hurricane Katrina and now they've finally found a constructive way to express themselves.
