I teach in a very low income area in California. Many of the students come from families where one or both of their parents are farmworkers. Many of their parents are not educated but want the best for their children. They are very supportive of the teacher! The area also contains a lot of kids in situations where there are a lot of mental health issues. The kids come with a lot of baggage but the students are GREAT and impressionable. Most have never left the neighborhood, so they are very excited to learn about other places and things. I love this group of kids! They need positive influences in their lives and I am very excited to be one of those contributors. These kids are smart and need to be shown how to be successful. A little bit of love goes a long way!!
