Using flexible, sliding magnetic manipulatives to model various Math objectives and skills would benefit my students immensely. These larger magnetic manipulatives will aid in my students retaining concepts that would be otherwise difficult to understand without these hands-on opportunities. I will move these and have the students move these on the dry erase magnetic board to model numbers, show in place value charts, assist in adding/subtracting, and to help students get a better understanding of regrouping. They will also be able to compare fractional parts and understand fractions better with the magnetic fraction manipulatives. Students will also be able to compare fractions easily using these moveable manipulatives and the white board. They are big and provide both visual and kinesthetic representation. I will use these during my Intervention groups. All the students in my classes will be able to benefit from these. In addition, students working in collaborative groups creating interactive anchor charts on chart paper allows them to take ownership of their work and create products using the knowledge they learned from this kind of kinesthetic learning. Students will be able to show their strategies and create graphic organizers to hang in the room. I can also use these chart tablets for collaborative grouping games. Having Math manipulatives available for my students to use will increase my students number sense foundation. Everything builds on number sense which starts in the early grades. Students will be able to make models of numbers, arrange coins in order from greatest value making counting money easier, and much more! Math manipulatives allow students to construct cognitive models for abstract mathematical ideas and processes. Simply put, students learn by doing and not just seeing and hearing. Manipulatives engage students and increase student success beyond measure!
