  • Who Can You Be?

    Funded Mar 11, 2022

Thank you so much for your charitable donations. Although my students have severe and profound disabilities and do not read for themselves, they love being read to. With the "I Am" book series my older students will be able to learn about people who they find interesting at a reading level that is more age-appropriate. The teachers and paraprofessionals really enjoy them as well.

Again, I want to thank you all for your generous donations. This series also helps us improve the biography collection that is housed in the library.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Tillman

  • Ordinary People Can Change the World

    Funded Oct 22, 2020

Thank you so much for your wonderful donations. With the book series, Ordinary People Can Change the World," my students will be able to learn about people who were able to change the world. The simple writing style that Brad Metzger uses aids in the ability of my students to understand what is being read to them. The students love the colorful pictures used in the series.

Again, I want to thank you all for your generous donations. This series also helps us improve the biography collection that is housed in the library.”

  • Books All Around!

    Funded May 28, 2020

Thank you so much for your generous donations. The South Carolina picture book and elementary book award nominees are wonderful additions to the media center. Although the students are unable to read the books on their own, they have really enjoyed listening to their teacher read them out loud. I am currently working on recording myself reading these stories for our students who are virtual and homebound. The addition of these books gives my students the chance to listen to the same stories their typical peers are reading. Again, thank you for your wonderful generosity.”

  • Science Fun

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Thank you so much for your donation to our "Science Fun" project. Because of your generosity the entire school population of one hundred twenty-five students will have hands on materials to use with the science curriculum. When working with special needs students it is incredibly important for them to have hands on materials that they can work with.

As you can see in the photos, my students have already started enjoying being able to work with the materials that were funded. These materials will be made available to all of the teachers to use in their rooms.

Again, thank you for your amazing generosity to my school.”

  • Exploring Our Gifts With The Giving Tree

    Funded Nov 9, 2017

Thank you so much for your generous donation. With these books the faculty at my school met and discussed what our gifts were and how we can use them in our classrooms. This also lead us to find people whose strengths might be our weaknesses. For example, I am not a good artist but in discussing the gifts we can bring to the classroom with my colleagues, I have found teachers who are. Many of the teachers read the books to their students and discuss what gifts they can bring to the classroom. This book lead us to have wonderful discussions between colleagues and classrooms.”

  • Grant Writing

    Funded Oct 23, 2017

Thank you so much for contributing to my Grant Writing project. The classes were very interesting and informative. After taking these class, I now have a better understanding of where to find local and national grants. I am also more comfortable with writing grants. In addition to these things, the classes gave me a better understanding of grants and encouraged me to not get discouraged if a grant is denied. It is a learning experience.

This knowledge will be incredibly helpful in finding funds for my school. Equipment can be very expensive and we are also trying to create a Nature Trail in the back lot. That project has been an expensive undertaking. With the knowledge these classes have given me I feel increased hope in our ability to see this dream become a reality. Again, I thank you for your kindness and generosity.”

  • Amazing Books for Amazing Students

    Funded Mar 29, 2017

Thank you so much for your wonderful donations. With your donations we were able to purchase numerous South Carolina Picture Book Award books from the 2017-2018 list. My students love to hear the stories and vote on their favorite. This is an activity done by all the elementary schools in our district. My students love being able to participate in the same activity that their regular education peers participate in. We work on this activity throughout the year. It is always an exciting day when we get to read and vote on one of our award books.”

  • Books, Books, and More Books

    Funded Nov 29, 2016

Thank you so much for your generous donation to our classroom. My students love the new books. While my students will never be able to read fluently due to their disabilities, many of them love being read to and looking at the pictures.

They have enjoyed listening to myself and their classroom teachers reading the easy readers to them. The Classic Adaptation collection is a particular favorite. Many of us want the students to be exposed to the classic stories of literature but the books themselves are too long. The Classic Adaptation series is perfect. The students are exposed to the main characters and events of a story. The Famous Americans sets are also a particular favorite. The test that our students have to take every year has added an American History component. These books have been extremely useful in helping teach the students about famous Americans.

It is with the generosity of people like you that help supply my school with much needed resources. You will never know how much your generosity is appreciated. Once again thank you for the bottom of my heart.”

  • Technology for Exceptional Students

    Funded Jan 13, 2016

Thank you so much for your generous donation to our technology project. With the funds donated we were able to receive a new laptop, webcam, and tripod. We use these items daily when we access our curriculum and other online resources.

My students have enjoyed being able to Skype with other students in the state. My preschool and elementary students especially enjoy being able to have story time even when I am not over at their campus. They also enjoy being able to participate in the activities happening at the main campus even though they cannot always be here.

Without your wonderful generosity we would not have been able to purchase these items. Again you have the heartfelt thanks of myself and my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Tillman

This classroom project was brought to life by Disney and 3 other donors.
My students are some of the most amazing people you will meet. My students range from age 3-21 and they all have severe intellectual disabilities- many of them also have physical disabilities. Many of the students at my school are non-verbal and use technology to communicate their needs and answer questions. Students love to come up to the Promethean Board and answer questions or use the iPad with the help of the Doceri app.
