Manga Mania in the Library
Funded Jan 23, 2023My students are over the moon! They are so happy with their new manga books. Your generosity has helped to fill in some missing gaps in each manga series and has assisted us in starting some new story lines as well.
Recent studies show that reading graphic novels provides numerous benefits to struggling and/or reluctant readers. They even boost the reading skills of students who are at and above grade level! Graphic novels help build vocabulary and increase reading comprehension skills. They also assist with developing visual literacy in our ever increasing digital/visual world.
Thank you for supporting the Sepulveda Library and our school's diverse group of readers.”

A Bevy of Books for Our Biblioteca!
Funded May 22, 2020My students and I would like to thank you for your generous donations to our A Bevy of Books for Our Biblioteca project. Your gift has already made such a positive impact on our library. Even though we are still in distance learning mode, our school has started a new service for the students called, Library To Go. Through this program, students can pick up books from the library and take them home to read.
Our most popular new book by far is, New Kid by Jerry Craft. There's already a waiting list for this awesome graphic novel. I'm so thankful that through this project, we were able to add so many current, positive, and topical books to our library collection. It's so important that kids keep reading during this unusual and stressful time.
I know that these new books will continue to be popular with the students that use our Library To Go service, and your donation will have an even greater impact when we all return to campus.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Crow

Funded May 5, 2020My students and I would like to thank you for your generous donations to our Loving Distance Learning with Libros project. You donations enabled us to purchase books to gift to students at the start of the pandemic, during distance learning. We were able to distribute books and school supplies to students who stopped by our community Grab and Go food center as well as to specific needy students who received a message to come pick up their books at the school entrance.
Reading for pleasure is always important, but it's even more essential now during this stressful time. This project allowed us to target specific students with books that, based on their reading history, I knew they would love. I received messages from several parents whose students benefitted from this project. They reported that their kids were so thrilled to receive the books. It enabled them to take a break from all of the screen time and read something that was fun and engaging. This project would not have been possible without you!”

Funded Mar 21, 2019Your generous donation of books and a bookcase has made such a positive impact on our library. When my students first saw the beautiful blue bookcase on wheels, they were so thrilled! They were even more excited when they saw that it was full of new biographies for them to explore. I have even been able to use the top of the bookcase to create eye catching library displays.
So far, the most circulated new biographies are Hamilton, Reaching Out, and Rad Women Worldwide. When one of the students saw Reaching Out on the top of the bookcase, he exclaimed, "Finally!" He had already read The Circuit and Breaking Through, and he was anxious to finish the story of Francisco Jiménez's life.
With the help of donors like you, will continue to add to our biography collection, especially considering it is the second most popular genre in our library (following fiction).”

Ms. Crow
Tech Skills & Research in the Library
Funded Mar 23, 2017My students and I would like to thank you for your generous donations to our Tech Skills & Research in the Library project. You donations enabled us to purchase an amazing new iPad and a kiosk stand to protect it and make it easy for the students to use. It has been the most popular thing in our library since we set it up!
Our new iPad has helped the students access our LAUSD digital library which assists them in research projects and accessing the common core curriculum. The teachers at our school have been working on getting the students to back up their opinions and ideas with reputable sources of information. Our new iPad gives the students an intuitive piece of technology in which to do this.
We have also been using the iPad to connect to our district's online public access catalog. This allows the students to look up fiction, nonfiction, and reference books so that they can locate them in the library. It's such a step up from our old technology, and we can't thank you enough!”

Ms. Crow
