From Reluctant Readers to Book Lovers
Funded Mar 26, 2010The year is coming to a close. It is time to step back and evaluate how much progress the students have made. Because of your generosity, my students' reading levels have grown this year by leaps and bounds.
For many of my students, a DonorsChoose book was the first book they ever finished in their lives. Others challenged themselves to read tougher selections that caught their interest.
Best of all, my class became book lovers. When our books arrived, you would have thought it was everyone's birthday. Students started complaining when reading time ended. They were excited to share what they had read with their peers.
I can't thank you enough. You have given a lasting gift to 15 unique and wonderful young people.”

Ms. Eisenband
From "I Don't Read" ...to Lifelong Readers
Funded Aug 25, 2009I cannot begin to thank you for the gift you have given my students. Our classroom library has provided countless hours of reading for pleasure and will continue to do so throughout the school year.
As an illustration of the impact your gift has made, I will share the story of one student who set a goal at the beginning of the year to finish one book - something he had never done before. He began with the "Alex Rider" graphic novel we received through DonorsChoose. Since then, he has finished not one, but three books.
Watching my students read, think about, and discuss these books has been a huge source of pride and excitement for me. I could not have done it without you.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Eisenband
Practice Makes Perfect in Financial Literacy
Funded Feb 25, 2009I wanted to thank you again for your generous donation of a video camera to our career education program. We have used it so far in several ways, and the students have been able to visualize themselves practicing effective career-related skills. The students have used the camera for mock interviews and for role-playing in a career setting. In future classes I hope to use it again so that students can create and edit their own videos on concepts in financial literacy.
Our school does a lot with less funding than traditional public schools have, but often we have to do without the "extras." Your kindness and generosity helped me to bring new technology into the classroom and reach learners in an exciting way.
Thanks again for your commitment public education and financial literacy.

Ms. Eisenband
