I teach in a Title I school where a majority of the children come from low income families. The parents work varying shifts and very few of the children are read to on a daily basis or ever. In order to increase their reading skills my students need a literature rich environment. The closest most of them get to this type of environment is my classroom. I have a large library of books that I have collected over the years from my own children's favorites and through purchases from Scholastic book clubs. My students are usually struggling readers. They are eager to learn and want me to read all the time. They want to read on their own but don't have the skills yet.
