Kindle a Love of Reading
Funded Feb 1, 2011I cannot begin to express how thankful my students and I are for your generous donation to our classroom. The Kindles you donated to our classroom are changing the lives of my students on a daily basis. I have never seen my struggling readers so excited to read! Not only are they are a great motivational tool, but they are also incredibly versatile! They have improved our class's reading instruction in many ways. In addition to using them to allow student to access hundreds of books that they wouldn't otherwise have access to, we've also used them along with a headphone splitter and headphones as a listening center.
First grade is one of the most critical grades for students to acquire basic literacy skills, and the skills they acquire at this time are crucial for their success in future grades. Because of your donation, my students are developing a lifelong love of reading as well as gaining valuable literacy skills that will set them on the path to future achievement.
Without donors like you, students like mine would go never have access to such amazing resources.”

Teaching Conflict Resolution Through Children's Literature
Funded Dec 28, 2010Thank you so much for funding books for our class's Conflict Resolution program. The books you sent have enabled us to institute a curriculum that is teaching students how to express their feelings appropriately, and how to handle conflicts without resorting to name-calling, bullying or aggression. Already, the difference in our classroom has been phenomenal! Students are more empathetic to each other, and I am noticing students using the skills they have learned through the literature you supplied to solve their own conflicts instead of immediately seeking help from the teacher.
Your support has enabled my class to learn lifelong social skills that will impact their future in a meaningful way. We are so thankful for your support!”

Funded Jan 24, 2011My students and I are so grateful for your incredible generosity. I cannot begin to tell you what a difference having an up-to-date, interactive listening center has made in the lives of my students. The progress is amazing--already my students are reading more fluently, recognizing more sight words on their own, and becoming more excited about reading. Every day, I have the privilege of watching my kids' eyes light up as they get to experience the wonder of reading with the help of their Kindles and their new 21st century listening center.
Learning to read is every child's right, and first grade is a critical time for literacy instruction.
Many of my students do not have access to books at home, let alone computers and e-readers. Furthermore, because of state budget cuts, we have had to make do for too long with the outdated technology we had in the classroom. Without your help, my students would never have had access to resources like these--resources that are helping my students reach new heights in reading. .
Your kindness, and the kindness of others like you, is what keeps our nation's classrooms moving forward.”

Help My 1st Graders Learn to Read!
Funded Nov 9, 2010Thank you so much for your incredible generosity in supporting this project. It is great to see that you share my vision for strong literacy instruction in the classroom. My students and I will benefit greatly from your kindness, as will many future classes of children who will use these materials.
The LeapFrog Tag reading systems you have funded will give students the help they need to read books on their own. By using the LeapFrog pens, students can instantly get help with a word they don't know. This will increase their confidence as readers and also add to their ability to comprehend new and challenging texts.
Learning to read is every child's right. Your incredible support will put my students on track to becoming lifelong readers and learners. I cannot wait to share these new tools with my students and my colleagues.”

Funded Apr 27, 2010Thank you so much for your generous donation to my classroom. The books that you donated have allowed my students to create their own book clubs where they read together and explore their ideas about literature every day. My students are so excited to have the opportunity to read books that are interesting and engaging, and to have the opportunity to take an active role in their own education. Many students have told me that reading the books you purchased for them in their book clubs is the best activity we've done all year. The results are already visible in their increased comprehension skills and renewed interest in reading on their own.
Without your help, my students would never have had access to these vital resources. Our school is located in a high-poverty neighborhood where many families simply cannot afford to purchase books for their children. Furthermore, our school is facing a budget crisis that limits our ability to purchase resources such as these.
Learning to read is every child's right. Because of you, my students are able to enjoy this right.”

Ms. Zambito
