  • Revitalize the Music

    Funded Feb 10, 2024

I am writing to express our heartfelt gratitude for your generous donation to our music program here in New York City. Thanks to your kindness, we were able to purchase reeds and repair materials for our instruments, and the impact has been nothing short of extraordinary.

The moment the students saw the new resources, their faces lit up with excitement. They eagerly picked up their instruments, ready to explore the world of music with renewed vigor. As they started playing, the room filled with melodious tunes that resonated with pride and joy. The sounds that filled our classroom were a testament to the magic that happens when young minds are given the tools to create music.

With the new reeds and repaired instruments, our students have been practicing diligently, honing their skills and pushing the boundaries of their musical abilities. The transformation has been incredible to witness. Their dedication and hard work have paid off, as they now sound more confident and harmonious than ever before.

Looking ahead, we are thrilled to announce that we will be holding a concert in May to showcase the talent and progress of our students. The excitement in the air is palpable, and the students are buzzing with anticipation. They are eager to share their love for music with their families and friends, and they are determined to give a performance that will leave a lasting impression.

As we prepare for the concert, our current classroom lessons will focus on perfecting our repertoire, refining our techniques, and working together as a team to create a memorable experience for all. The students will continue to practice diligently, support each other, and embrace the spirit of collaboration that music fosters.

Once again, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity and support. Your donation has not only provided us with much-needed resources but has also inspired and empowered a new generation of musicians. We are immensely grateful for your kindness and look forward to sharing the joy of music with you at our upcoming concert.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Dyer

  • Don't String Us Along... Rockin' With No Amp

    Funded Oct 23, 2022

Thank you for your generosity and donating to this project. Students now have individual percussion instruments to use in class for every class! We also have an extra amp and cables so that all of our bass players can rock out with the class.

When the materials first arrived, my students were very excited about the cables and the amp. They were happy to finally be able to contribute to the overall sound of the ensemble instead of plunking away without any sound.

The percussion instruments were also a hit! The students explored them all the first day and now we have a special box where they can pick up an instrument if they need one for the piece they are working on.

We are playing the piece "Shout!" and the bass is finally able to be our foundation. We also get to use percussion in our other projects, like when students write music in smaller ensembles and when we make soundscapes to videos.

Thank you again for your generous donation, and come see us rock out soon.”

    With gratitude,

  • Single Horns Double Trouble

    Funded Jun 10, 2019

Thank you so much for giving out French horn players a chance to play on a double French Horn. They will now have the chance to audition for more advanced music programs and play more advanced music. They also have the chance to play a new and shiny instrument... ours are working... but dented and ugly. They love their shiny new baby!

We teach over 500 students instrumental music every day here, and the French Horns have never before had the chance to have a brand new shiny double French Horn. The excitement that they have for learning music and playing a challenging instrument has been truly inspired by your generosity.

Our beginners are featured in the photos and are excited to begin learning on their new instrument. Thank you again!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Dyer

  • All About That Bass! (In Your Own Headphones)

    Funded Nov 10, 2014

Thank you so much for your generous donation. We teach almost four-hundred students in our music technology classes, and most of them do not have the resources to be able to have their own personal head phones. What was once a time for me to teach acceptable discipline regarding technology has now become a music composition classroom. Our students can now create compositions, and concentrate on their own work without being distracted by the work of their peers. They can now focus on the lessons, and share their compositions with their friends without disturbing the work flow of the rest of the classroom. This has made an incredible difference for my students, and for their teachers. We now get to focus on musical learning and composition, instead of spending the majority of class time redirecting distractions. Our students have so far created their own ring-tones, and are now writing soundtracks to short films. Many now say that they are interested in a career in music technology. Thank you for bringing the inspiration!”

  • A Very Hairy Baritone

    Funded Mar 10, 2011

Thank you for donating to our music class. The band students are so excited about their new baritone. The music students are very happy to have a new shiny baritone that works every time they play, and it sounds fabulous! They are practicing more now, and it is all because they are proud of their section and of their instrument.

Every day after rehearsal, students take a few extra minutes to make sure their new baritone is put away carefully. The baritone players are committed to keeping this instrument in pristine condition for many years to come. Thank you again for your generous donation. You are helping to promote music education for over 400 middle school students!”

  • Shiny and New: Help us Clean Our Instruments!

    Funded Dec 11, 2010

Thank you very much for donating to our music classes. We have just finished cleaning the trombones with our new equipment, and now they are in "like new" condition. The trombone players were very happy with the results of the "super slick" slide system. This will help them play faster and more easily when they are playing technical passages. Throughout the year, we will be cleaning and maintaining the instruments, and now we are able to keep them polished and gunk free thanks to your donations. The difference is obvious in the faces of the students that play these instruments every day. When they see their instruments repaired and shiny, they are so excited and eager to play. During the spring, which is when we prepare our concert music, we are especially grateful. The shiny instruments have our students practicing even more! We hope to see you at our Spring Concert to celebrate their success. Thank you again for your donation. ”

  • Percussion Mallets for Advanced Sound!

    Funded Nov 16, 2010

Thank you for donating advanced mallets to our percussion section. The difference that this has made in their motivation has been evident over the last few weeks. Students now love playing the bass drum with their big mallet, where as before they called it "boring." These mallets have also made a difference in our sound, and we are able to play more advanced ensemble pieces that utilize these types of sounds. These are the kinds of mallets that students see the professional musicians use, and it makes them more excited to sound like a professional. Your donation has helped a section that is the heartbeat of our band. Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Dyer

Students from our school come from an intense urban setting, which includes a lack of funding for our music program and supplies. They are interested, engaged, and quick to ask questions. They respond with dedication to fairness and respect. While our music students come from many different backgrounds, they all share the love of playing their instruments together. In the music program, we teach 400 children a day, which creates one of the most vibrant and successful programs that exists in an urban setting. Despite no school budget, our students have been able to "make it work" with the materials that we have available. Our students study instrumental music, and learn through a progressive three year program. After finishing the program, many graduates go on to study at music high schools and earn music scholarships to universities.
