Students from our school come from an intense urban setting, which includes a lack of funding for our music program and supplies. They are interested, engaged, and quick to ask questions. They respond with dedication to fairness and respect. While our music students come from many different backgrounds, they all share the love of playing their instruments together. In the music program, we teach 400 children a day, which creates one of the most vibrant and successful programs that exists in an urban setting. Despite no school budget, our students have been able to "make it work" with the materials that we have available. Our students study instrumental music, and learn through a progressive three year program. After finishing the program, many graduates go on to study at music high schools and earn music scholarships to universities.
