  • Take a Seat: A Classroom Rug

    Funded Nov 17, 2017

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Wow! My students and I are so grateful for your generous donation! The large carpet has allowed my students to have plenty of space to sit on the rug. My students do not need to bring chairs over to see the smart board anymore. They now have plenty of space to spread out and not feel cramped on a tiny area rug. They love being able to spread out and do their work without having to worry about being in someone else's space.

When the rug arrived, we set it up without telling the kids. Their reaction was priceless! They were beyond excited to see the new rug! Jaws were dropping, excitement in their faces, and I even had a kid cry with joy! This rug really made their day!

Thank you for helping add so much joy to my students lives! They really appreciate what you did for them!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Conahey

  • Shhh! We're Busy Learning!

    Funded Aug 31, 2017

I just want to begin by thanking you all for your very generous donations! My students were beyond thrilled to receive the new headphones! The headphones have helped to create a quiet working environment.

We use laptops, a stereo, and tablets during our literacy block. The students listen to stories on the stereo therefore having wireless headphones has not only created a quiet story time for students but it also prevents students from getting tangled in the wires. The headphones for the laptops and the tablets have allowed students to play with sight word apps and letter recognition apps without interfering students working in other centers.

I have students who learn better through auditory learning . The headphones allow my auditory learners to still have a resource they need but one that does not disrupt other students.

Thank you for taking the time to look at our project and donating to our classroom! My students and I truly appreciate your help!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Conahey

  • Wobble Out Your Wiggles!

    Funded Apr 1, 2017

Wow! My kids were beyond ecstatic when they saw your wonderful donation! They could not wait to begin using the items! My kids could not believe that strangers would be generous enough to provide them with the tools they need. It created a humbling lesson for them.

They love that they can use the lap desks during our guided reading time. Our classroom is not large enough to fit a kidney table, which is what is generally used for guided reading. We have been working on the rug with their folders. Now they have the resources needed to properly write and read during out guided reading centers. The yoga ball chairs are great for those students who have extra energy during learning times. It allows them to get out their extra energy while continuing to focus on their work.

Thank you very much for helping my students thrive and be successful in ways that my school district and I are unable to help.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Conahey

  • Learning Through Art

    Funded Jan 18, 2017

First of all, I just want to say thank you again for your generosity! My students were thrilled when we received the art supplies! They were very eager for me to open the packages as they arrived! Their excitement continued once they were able to see the materials as well as get their chance to use the different paints and easels. Art center has become a classroom favorite!

My students have made pictures of themselves, their friends, animals, even letters and words. By far, their favorite seems to be making pictures of themselves. Adding details with the different colors to add each unique feature. They look and feel like artist with their smocks and the easels. My students label their pictures so this has helped them with word recognition as well as their creativity!

I continue to try to find ways to help my students thrive but also in a way that allows my students to be creative. Kindergarten has become very academic so mixing art into it helps these young students find learning to be fun!

Thank you again for making this possible! My students and I are truly grateful!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Conahey

  • Flexible Seating

    Funded Dec 21, 2016

My students were so excited to receive our different seating options! As an adult, it can be hard to sit still for a long amount of time. We might begin to tap our fingers, our feet may begin to move, or we may start to doodle. If we can not sit still for a long amount of time as adults, how can we expect a kindergartner to sit for a long amount of time without moving? We can't. It is our jobs to provide students the opportunity to move without interfering with their learning, or other students learning. In a low-income, high poverty school district, finding the funding to allow for alternative seating is down right difficult! Thanks to your generosity, my students are able to move and learn at the same time.

My students don't hear my foot tapper during math because he now has the bouncy bands that allows him to get out his energy quietly. My students who struggle to sit still LOVE the wobble chairs. It allows them to quietly move while still completing their work. The flexible seating has allowed my students to continue to move and focus on their work. It has allowed them to have an environment that fits their needs and to allows them to learn.”

  • Technology for Title I

    Funded Jan 12, 2017

Technology has become a big part of students learning experience. Many of my students are not lucky enough to have computers or tablets at home. Students are expected to know how to use technology when it comes to testing in the upper grades, but without experience we are setting them up for failure. Working in a low-income and high poverty school district, funds are tight. The student computers we had in the classroom would not work most of the time, basically just taking up space.

My students were thrilled to receive the new Chromebooks! To have computers that actually work is exciting for my students. They are taking turns using them and are very careful with them. They enjoy using them to listen to audio stories, learn their letters through starfall.com, practice sight words, counting, and even typing words! All of my students have been eager to have a chance using the Chromebooks! Thank you for giving them this opportunity!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Conahey

  • Building a Love for Reading

    Funded Mar 29, 2016

Wow! My students are loving the wireless headphones even more than I thought that they would! Some of us take for granted having a quiet space to read. If we are in a loud room, we may just get up and leave. In a classroom, that is not an option for the students.

Students learn a great deal from hearing someone else reading, hence why having a listening center is so beneficial. While in the listening center, students are reading and writing in other centers. Having the wireless headphones has completely changed that atmosphere during their Literacy Centers. Students are able to work more efficiently because the noise level has decreased. Students are able to focus on their writing, and reading.

I have found every student is excited to try out and use the wireless headphones. They are excited to go to the listening center now. I have a few students who are distracted by the smallest of sounds, and this has allowed them to concentrate on their work.

I can not thank you enough for your donation. It has also helped me to work with students in small groups with out a distraction which allows me to help them become better readers. Thank you so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Conahey

  • Kindergartners Love Technology!

    Funded Mar 9, 2016

Technology is a huge asset in the classroom! Students are able to use the tablets to help them learn their letters, learn to read, and practice math. There are apps for students on all different levels. Students will play different games without realizing that they are actually learning. They become excited to show their peers, teachers, and families. The different apps help present topics in a different way then I could through interactive games and videos.

Many of the students do not have access to technology at home. Having the tablets at school allows them that access. They absolutely love it! Every student has access to the tablets multiple times throughout the week. They are so grateful that they have been given the opportunity to have the tablets. They wanted everyone to know that they said "Thank You!"

Thank you have your help to brighten my students' school year and help their education continue to thrive!”

  • Get Us Out of the Dinosaur Era!

    Funded Aug 12, 2015

Boy, were my students excited when I told them about the tablets!!! I explained how we received the donation and they were in awe! They are so grateful for the wonderful donation! Their first reaction was, "How do we say Thank-You?" and "Let's make them a card!" The students are excited to use the tablets daily and it helps to make learning fun.

Students use the tablets daily to utilize learning apps, especially ABCMouse (a teacher AND student favorite!!!). Students also are able to use apps to practice writing letters, learning letter sounds, and reading stories. Students are using the tablets to solve math problems. It helps make learning fun for them!

Thus for, I have seen students become more excited about reading. They love having stories read to them, and different letter learning games. I have noticed students identifying more letters and numbers.

I can not thank you all enough for this wonderful donation to my class. Technology has become a big part in education and I am so happy to see my classroom finally have a foot in that technology door!!!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Conahey

My students come from a high-poverty low-income community. They live in the poorest county of NJ. Some of my students' parents work 2-3 jobs to take care of the bare necessities of everyday life. While their parents want the very best for them, the extra things in life may not be able to be provided. About 75% of my students qualify for free or reduced lunch and cannot readily afford materials to help enhance their education. My students have faced many challenges in their young lives where school tends to be their only constant. We want to make their school life as enriching and fulfilling as possible.
