Special Needs Listening and Love
Funded Jan 18, 2021Thank you for providing my students with headphones and supplies for our Valentine's Day Party. The headphones have helped to reduce the noise in the classroom. Each student has either a computer or iPad. They are given daily assignments that are picture and voice output support. Without the headphones, it gets quite loud. The students enjoy using the headphones.
The Valentine's Day party materials were a HUGE success. The students received stamps, stickers, tattoos, heart-shaped glasses and candy. We had such a fun afternoon. Who would have thought that we would be hit with a major freeze shutting down the city in the following days.
This year has definitely been different. I'm so grateful to have ALL my students in face-to-face instruction. Thank you for being a part of their success.”

Independent Work Systems for Special Needs
Funded Aug 13, 2020Wow! We have almost finished the first semester of this strange school year. As anxious as we all were to go back to school, I'm thankful ALL my students are in-person. We are working hard to maintain our daily structure and routine using safety protocols that are pretty strict. My students are wonderful at following the schedule, washing their hands, and wearing masks & face shields.
Much of our routine centers around individual student work systems. Each basket contains an activity that students can complete independently. Work systems are an essential part of our Life Skills program.
Thank you for supporting our classroom.”

Special Needs - Distance Learning Hands-on Activities Containers
Funded Aug 10, 2020Thank you for making virtual instruction just a bit easier for my students and their families. Each student picked up their materials prior to the start of school. We had two weeks of online instruction before switching to in-person. Two of my students opted to continue virtual classes. However, they were soon brought back to in-person due to concerns about the regression of skills.
We've had a few days in which we needed to pack up and move to virtual learning. With the system I put in place, using the boxes, baskets, and bags, it was a smooth transition.
I appreciate your support for my students.”

Funded Jan 24, 2020I consider items that help keep my students engaged, on-task, organized and motivated as classroom essentials. I am grateful that you all think that way too.
We use dry erase pens every morning to complete our calendar routine. Each student has a picture supported laminated calendar folder that contains months of the year, yesterday, today, and tomorrow, the weather, etc. Our daily routine is engaging for all students as they can circle, write, or point.
The tri-fold napkins are so handy. Our district recently moved to paper towels on a roll. Students must have enough hand strength and fine motor skills to pull the paper towel down and tear it off - many of my students don't. The napkins are easy for students to pass out at snack time. They're also easy for us to take with us to the cafeteria for all the small spills and mishaps.
Last, but not least, the printer ink. Thank you, thank you and thank you. A pack of 4 ink cartridges typically costs around $100 (black, magenta, yellow & cyan). With all the picture/communication/behavior supports, social stories, and student activities printed in color, the cost can be high. Your donation will see us through to the end of the school year!”

Positive Reinforcers Needed for Special Needs Students
Funded Nov 15, 2019Thank you so very for supporting "Positive Reinforcers" Needed for Special Needs Students"! The wind-up and light-up toys are super motivating for my non-verbal students. I'm consistently getting vocalizations and speech approximations because they REALLY want to get a toy. The box of wind-up toys I ordered came with a huge variety. My students each have their favorite that they like to work for. One student, in particular, likes to work only for the light-up toy.
The headphones help to keep the classroom noise down while students are engaging in their reinforcement activity. One student likes to watch bowling videos and another enjoys Kidz Bop sing-a-long videos.
Thank you again for your generous donations.”

Ms. Lloyd-Carney
Structured Learning for Special Needs Students
Funded Jul 17, 2019We are off to a great school year! I can't believe it's already November. Thank you so much for helping me and my students stay organized. I know that tape, markers, laminating pouches and a book stapler aren't very exciting. I appreciate that you understand how much it means for these kids to have structure and routine throughout their day.
The packing tape is used to put labels on all the boxes, bins and tote trays that store student belongings, books, materials, and independent work tasks. The masking tape lets me divide tables into personal workspaces. The dry erase markers are used by the students to write on laminated activities so they can easily be reused. The book stapler holds their take-home readers together and is absolutely the best thing EVER!
We (my students and I) appreciate your generous donations to our classroom.”

STEM Activities for Special Needs Students
Funded May 22, 2019Thank you for helping my students explore STEM activities related to Design and Engineering. They are enjoying learning about the structure and design of things they see every day.
I have created an "I Can Build" center that allows students to choose a photo and attempt to build it using all kinds of fun materials. The kits purchased through your donations added vehicles, buildings, and bridges. Each student completes a structure and then tries to draw or take a picture of it.
There is something for everyone, no matter if they are kindergarten or fifth grade.
Your donation also purchased book bins that have been personalized for each student. These are used to store their individual language arts lessons and materials as well as their library books.”

Special Needs Color Printing & Laminating
Funded Dec 19, 2018Many thanks for the printer ink and laminating pouches. Hopefully, these will get us through the end of the school year.
My students' learning system is supported with picture symbols and fringe communication boards that accompany their core vocabulary boards. Color printing makes all these supports much more inviting and engaging. This is especially true for my non-verbal students.
Communication supports are at the core of what I do in the classroom to facilitate language development and academic growth. Having these supports laminated helps them to last because they are sturdy and can't be destroyed during meltdowns or by little hands that just can't be still.
My staff and I appreciate your generosity and support for our students.”

Ms. Lloyd-Carney
Special Needs Classroom Supplies
Funded Sep 6, 2018Thank you so much for donating to my students. They have had a fun filled, action packed semester. The dot markers, stamps, paint brushes and scissor scoops have added excitement to our fine motor work. Many of the students have poor motor control so anything I can do to help develop and strengthen their ability to use their hands is a bonus. Not only that, but the stamps are great fun for my non-writers as well as my writers. They love to complete papers that require them to trace, color, stamp and write their name.
The hand soap/lotion and food service gloves are so very nice to have. My paraprofessionals and myself wash our hands many times an hour. The gloves allow us to cut, de-bone, and orient food on students trays. Using food service gloves allows us to save our Nitrile gloves for diapering and toileting.
I'll send for the caterpillars in March so we can study butterfly life cycles in April.”

Funded Aug 22, 2018Thank you so much for your generous donations to my students and their classroom environment. This project gave us a paper cutter, pocket folders, ID badges and safety release lanyards, sticky notes, paper towels and more! I know these items are not very exciting. However, it all combines to help me provide my little learners with a structured classroom.
The paper cutter is used for just about everything I make including individual student binders, communication icons, schedule icons, all labels and signage. The sticky notes are used to leave reminders, to post student goals, for tracing activities and much more. You just wouldn't believe everything you can do with a post-it note in the classroom.
The paper towels are great. You'll probably never know another person who gets excited about tri-fold paper towels. Our district switched to brown paper towels on a roll that gets stuck and the children don't have the motor skills to tear the paper off. The tri-fold paper towels help the students to be more independent. They also make really great snack napkins.
The ID badges and lanyards have been the biggest hit. I made badges to correspond to classroom jobs. I attempted to have class job in previous years but the students never seem to remember their job if they are right in front of the "Job Chart". The badges have changed everything. I honestly think they all thought they were "helpers" for the first few days until they understood that each had a specific job. They are so very proud of their badges and put them on first thing each day.
Thank you for being a part of our classroom.”
