A Well-Supplied Classroom
Funded Sep 15, 2021I'm writing again to thank you for your thoughtfulness and generosity in funding the school supply project for my 4th grade classroom.
The supplies provided through this project have been in daily use, ever since they arrived during the first week of school. The students use the pencils and pens for all of their schoolwork. They collect all of their writing projects and resources in the 3-ring binders. They use the notebooks as journals or to keep track of their mathematical thinking. They use the dry erase markers to show their work during math and word study activities. They use the copy paper for everything from writing stories, to doing math, to completing their homework assignments. And they use the folders to keep everything organized.
It has been particularly important this year for every child to have materials of their own, since our safety protocols prohibit sharing materials. I am so very grateful to have had abundant school supplies for each student through this project.
I honestly can't imagine how we'd be able to function without these necessary supplies. Thank you so much for helping to ensure that my students and I have a "Well-Supplied Classroom!"”
With gratitude,
Ms. Jocelyn
Building A Multicultural Classroom Library
Funded Feb 3, 2016What a pleasure it has been to be to add these multicultural books to my classroom library this year! My students are very engaged readers with a variety of interests, and brand-new books always inspire lots of enthusiasm from them!
This particular collection of books increased the diversity of my library, and it gives my students opportunities to read exciting books that reflect their own cultures and backgrounds. Several of the picture books have prompted lively, thoughtful discussions, and the chapter books are in frequent rotation throughout the class.
Thank you for helping me to improve my classroom book collection!”

Reaching Reluctant Readers Through Graphic Novels
Funded Jan 29, 2016Several months after receiving our order of graphic novels, these books are still my students' most popular choices for independent reading time. These graphic novels have inspired a high degree of focus and enthusiasm throughout my class, which has been particularly gratifying to see in some of my (formerly) reluctant readers. The students have been inspired to read, discuss, and share these books with their friends, and I have seen a corresponding growth in the students' fluency and reading comprehension.
The graphic novels have proven to be an effective and engaging learning tool. Thank you so much for helping to bring them into my classroom!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Jocelyn

Get Ready to Print - 2015
Funded Feb 10, 2015I'm writing again to thank you for helping supply my classroom with ink for our Lexmark printer/copier. The Lexmark is in use constantly. On any given day, I might be printing out homework, a newsletter for families, customized writing paper, or research materials from the Internet. I might be copying student work for a bulletin board, or creating materials for a special activity, such as our Personal Timeline project or our ongoing study of New York City Over Time. This year in particular, the copier has been put to heavy use creating math games and supplies for our updated math curriculum. (I've posted several pictures of the young mathematicians at work!)
It is so nice to know that I can always depend on the Lexmark to make high-quality copies. Thank you for helping to make that possible.”

Ms. Jocelyn
Keeping it Clean!
Funded Sep 10, 2014I wanted to let you know how much we've appreciated the cleaning supplies we received through this DonorsChoose project.
The whiteboard erasers have been particularly helpful. They are used regularly on our large whiteboard easel during whole-class lessons, as well as on the students' mini whiteboards during independent work. The students love using actual erasers instead of tissues to keep the whiteboards clean!
It has also been a pleasure to see how eagerly the children use the other cleaning products, such as the wipes and paper towels, to ensure that our room is as clean and tidy as possible. They are truly gaining a sense of personal responsibility for our classroom environment.
Thank you so much for helping to make this possible!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Jocelyn

iPad Minis for Engaging Young Learners
Funded Sep 10, 2014"Hooray! We have our iPads!" the students squealed when I brought them out for the first time. The students have been excited and pleased with the addition of these two iPad minis to our classroom materials.
I am continually discovering new ways that the minis can be used to motivate my students to learn. I've downloaded a number of learning games, particularly for math and literacy, and the students have been eagerly playing the games! The minis are used regularly during our Friday Math Games Morning, and they are frequently used during independent reading time. I look forward to using the iPads with the students to do research for our New York City Over Time study, as well.
Overall, I've found the iPad minis to be very welcome additions to our classroom resources, and I want to extend a warm thank you to each of you for making this possible!”

Books, Books, Books
Funded Sep 18, 2013It's always such a joy to watch students engage with reading! I've always found that the more books I have in my classroom library, the more likely it is that I'll be able to "hook" my reluctant readers, as well as support and motivate my advanced readers.
My students can't wait for their "Book Shopping" day each week. That's the day when they get to return the books they've finished and select new books for the coming week. The classroom library always hums with activity at that time, as the children browse through the book baskets, recommend books to one another, and consider their choices.
Thank you so much for helping me to have a rich and varied collection of books for my students to read and enjoy!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Jocelyn
