  • Help My Students Help Children in Nigeria

    Funded Aug 27, 2019

I don't know how to thank you for funding this important project. This project has had a huge impact on my graphic design students. On the first day of school they learned all about the project and have been practicing our Photoshop skills since then. We have been discussing the power of art, eduction and giving to others from day one. Because you have funded the project my students had access to photos of the children from Nigeria that they are working with right now. They did research on Nigeria and what it is like to be a child there. My students are also earning community service hours to help them with scholarships. We can't wait to send the portraits to our children and get our video back. Thank you again for making this all possible.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Becker

  • Hear Me, Hear Me

    Funded Jul 8, 2019

Thank you so much for your generosity and support. Because you supported this project, my students have 30 pairs of brand new headphones to use in class. Last year we didn't have any headphones for the students to use.

The headphones are so exciting for the students because they use them for so many different learning opportunities in our class. They love to use the headphones when listening to videos , tutorials or working on their own and listening to music.

All of my students are thrilled to be able to use these brand new and super comfortable headphones, especially my computer science students. My computer science have to listen to tutorial videos and just like to code in quiet. My graphic design students also love to watch and listen to videos about artists such as Art21 videos on their computers using the headphones. Thank you again for supporting my students and supporting a project that and has such a positive effect on the classroom culture and learning environment.”

  • Help My AP Students Score Big

    Funded Dec 31, 2018

Thank you so much for your generous donation that made it possible for my students to get professional white mats to frame their artwork for their AP 2D Design Portfolio. AP 2D Design is hard, hard work and you just made it a little easier by helping us with much needed resources. My students were so excited when they saw that we now have mats to frame all their artworks. The AP 2D Design exam has three parts. For two of the parts my students need to create 24 original, digital artworks. For the third part the students print and frame their 5 favorite artworks. This is what we will be using our mats for. My students are working really hard on their artwork and if they score big they can earn college credit. Thank you again for making a difference in my students lives.”

  • Help My Students Help Children in Syria

    Funded Nov 13, 2018

Thank you so much for giving my students the opportunity to create portraits for Syrian children. My students are working on finding out everything they can about the children's life in refugee camps. They have read an online graphic novel written by a mom from Madaya, Syria. They have been poring over the videos on the Memory Project website. They have also been practicing their digital portraiture skills.

My students couldn't be more excited to create portraits for these young children. They are developing so much empathy for them by just looking at their photos and learning about their situations. The final part to this amazing service learning project will be in May when my students will be getting a video of "their children" receiving their portraits. This will be an exciting day in our classroom and one that my students are really looking forward to.

Thank you again for your generous support. They couldn't have done it without you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Becker

  • Help My Students Help Children in Syria

    Funded Jan 17, 2018

I cannot express how thankful I am for your generosity. My students have been so excited about this project. They have been working hard on their portraits and have even been learning how to write short notes in Arabic to the children they are creating portraits for. Many said that this project has been their favorite so far. We can't wait to send off our portraits and to receive a video of the Syrian children receiving the portraits. Receiving the video is always the highlight of our art class. Working on this project taught my students some really important technical skills as well as teaching them empathy. My students are great kids who are very motivated to help refugees and to learn everything they can about the children whose portraits they are creating. Because of your generosity my students are taking part in an experience that is teaching them that they have the power to create positive change in the world.”

They love their magazine subscriptions and have been using them to get a lot of inspiration for their projects. Thank you for making us feel supported and important. • Help My Students Help Children in Syria.

    Funded Oct 12, 2016

Thanks so much for your generous donation to the Memory Project. Because of your donations my graphic design classes were able to participate in this amazing project. My students got 25 photos of children from Syria who were living in refugee camps. They used Photoshop to create beautiful portraits of these children, that were sent to the children through the Memory Project. My students also spent some time researching current events in Syria. They really liked Madaya Mom an online graphic novel that is told through the eyes of a mom in Syria, by Marvel Comics. My students were so focused while working on their portraits and they were so proud of the results. Many of them said they fell in love with their children while they were working on their portraits. My students learned so much from working with the Memory project. They learned technical skills about how to create a realistic portrait in Photoshop and how to have compassion for others. They also learned that even though they are only high school students they can still make a positive impact on the world. They wouldn't have had the opportunity to learn and grow without your support. Thank you again for your generosity.

    Sincerely,

    Jennifer Becker”

  • Water and Computers Don't Mix

    Funded Dec 30, 2015

Because of your generous donations I was able to purchase 15 new keyboards and five mice for my technology classroom. All our new equipment was used to replace keyboards and mice that were ruined because of a flood in our classroom in October. It feels so good to finally have our classroom back to where it was before the flood.

Our new keyboards have had a huge impact on my classroom. My students were really moved to know that so many people cared about them. It was important for them to know that people care enough to want them to have equipment that works. The day the new equipment arrived all my students were so excited! They are able to work on their projects without always having to stop to switch out keyboards for ones that work.

In the last couple of weeks since the new keyboards arrived students have used them for so many different projects. The students in Graphic Design class have been creating portraits of children from Ethiopia with an organization called, The Memory Project. Students in Foundations of Technology class have been learning all about Photoshop and creating self-portraits. Every lunch period and after school, more students use the computers to apply to colleges, fill out FASFA and apply for scholarships and jobs. As you can tell your generous donations has helped many students in my classroom this year and will continue to help my students for many more years.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Becker

  • Help My Students Help Children in Ethiopia

    Funded Oct 1, 2015

Thank you so much for your generous donation that allowed my students to be part of The Memory Project. Because of your donation my students were able to create 22 portraits of children from Ethiopia. Because of this amazing program my students were motivated to create a really special portrait for a child on the other side of the world that they had never met.

They worked everyday for the last four weeks creating and revising their portrait skills. I often heard my students use the term, "my child" or say that they wished they could meet their child from Ethiopia. What made me the happiest was they worked so hard on this project, so that they could create the best portrait possible and they really felt a connection with these children. One of my students was extra proud because her father was Ethiopian and she got to create a portrait of a child who had the same mane as her father. We research Ethiopia by ready articles and watching Anthony Jourdain,Parts Unknown. My students really made a connection with the country and the people of Ethiopia.

Because of this project my students learned to work on a long term project because it is important and not merely to get a grade. They learned that they could and they should work hard to make a positive impact on the world. They earned over thirty community service hours a piece.

You can imagine how eagerly we are waiting for our video and photos of their children receiving their portraits. It will be a wonderful early graduation gift for my seniors. Thank you again for your generous donation. Because of your generosity and willingness to help, my students were able to learn how to really improve their technical portraiture skills and to learn what it means to be global citizens! I hope you enjoy the photos I posted of the students working on the portraits.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Becker
