My students come from very difficult backgrounds. Many face situations that most adults would not be able to handle. Our school for the most part, qualifies for free and reduced lunch. We are a title I school in which teachers constantly come and go due to behavior issues. They need motivation and a lot of support. Many parents do not give them the support and attention that they need. My students are not read to and thus are below grade level. As a matter of fact, our entire school is under an action plan with our district to work on ways to improve student success. We do read alouds when possible, but a listening center would allow students the opportunity to be read to and have reading modeled to them.
