Magic School Bus Travels Through the Written Word
Funded Jan 25, 2018Thank you so much for donating tri-fold boards to our classroom. These boards were used to display students' stages of writing throughout the writing process.
On the left hand side, students displayed their endangered animal research and sources. In the middle they displayed their hand-written and typed rough drafts with evidence of editing and revising. Finally, on the right hand side, they displayed their final copies of their endangered animal research.
These tri-fold boards were put on display in our cafeteria during our Magic School Bus Travels Through the Written Word night for parents and families to see.
Thank you again for your help in making our writing celebration dream a reality.”

Funded Feb 3, 2018Students were so excited when they received their brand new school supplies. They were excited to help me unpack the boxes and distribute their new supplies.
In our classroom pencils and markers are a hot commodity and they seem to disappear like socks in a dryer. Where do they go? I have no idea! However, these brand new school supplies will last us through the rest of the school year.
Thank you so much for your generous donation! Because of you, students will have the necessary supplies to succeed in the classroom!”

Making STEM Connections with K'NEX Kits
Funded Dec 20, 2017Students have been enjoying the K'NEX Kits. These kits have been great for making STEM connections throughout the school day. Students have been testing out their prior knowledge and learning about simple machines, forces, and motion all while having fun building race cars and amusement park rides with their peers.
These kits are not only fun during math and science, but also during indoor recess. Students are always begging for me to pull out these K'NEX Kits.
Thank you so much for your kind donations!”

Creating Opportunities for Collaboration
Funded Oct 13, 2017Thank you again for your generous donations to our classroom project. Students cheered and celebrated when our board games arrived. They have been a wonderful addition to our classroom for days when the weather isn't cooperating and we have indoor recess.
Students have been working hard to develop teamwork skills and to be better communicators with their peers. These games have provided them with opportunities to practice kindness and good sportsmanship while also building their problem solving skills.
Thank you again!”

Spark Student Engagement with Scholastic Storyworks Jr.
Funded Oct 18, 2017Thank you so much for your generous donations to our classroom project. Students were elated when the individual copies of their Scholastic Storyworks JR arrived. They are at the perfect reading level for students to use during our small reading groups. They have also been reading them with partners during reading centers.
One of students favorite articles is called, "The Greatest Invention Ever." Can you guess what it is about? How the TOILET has saved millions of lives! Students are using context clues, drawing conclusions, and comparing this story to another article called, "A Nes Kind of Toilet," which shares how Peepoo can change the world. They are laughing and learning at the same time. Best of all, they can share these stories and articles with their families when they bring them home.
Thank you again!”

Funded Aug 23, 2017Over the last few weeks, students have been enjoying their individual copies of Scholastic Storyworks. Storyworks is great! It provides students with a variety of challenging texts, at their lexile level. There are loads of activities to accompany each article or story.
Students have been enjoying the reader's theater scripts that are included in each issue. They love to read aloud as a whole class.
We also completed an activity where students cut and pasted text features from one of the issues onto a tri-fold board.
Thank you for your generosity. You have greatly improved our language arts block with amazing text!”

Spark Student Engagement with Scholastic News
Funded May 31, 2017Students were extremely excited when our weekly Scholastic News magazines started to arrive in our classroom. We have been using these magazines to learn about nonfiction text structures, text features, main idea, and details. We have been answering questions using supporting details from the text. It is great that they each get their own copy to highlight and mark up.
Students are also thrilled to share their copy of Scholastic News, and their learning, with their families when they return home. These magazines provide support with reading fluency and comprehension. They are inviting, colorful, and provide text that supports current events of interest to students.
We can't wait to keep using these as new weekly magazines continue to arrive. Thank you!”

Funded Oct 21, 2016Thank you for donating a classroom supply of Scholastic Storyworks to my classroom. My students are eager to read each issue as it arrives. They love that they get individual copies that they do not have to share.
The stories are exciting and engaging to read. Most recently, we read a play about Sybil Ludington, a Revolutionary War hero. Not only did the play help us improve our fluency and confidence while reading in front of an audience, but it aligned well with our unit on theme and our social studies unit about the American Revolution.
Thank you again from the bottom of my heart. I can't wait to keep integrating Storyworks into our daily classroom activities!”
