Wordless Wonderland
Funded Jan 26, 2010This week we received 16 wordless picture books. They are a wonderful addition to our classroom library. Students have been learning about how to make an inference during reading workshop. Today, I broke students up into small groups, gave each group one of the new wordless picture books, and let them take turns using the pictures to tell the story and make inferences. The students used vivid and colorful language when talking to their peers. These books provided a perfect talking point for our comprehension strategies.
Since there are no words, students won't have to stumble over decoding difficult words and can focus on the comprehension strategies alone. I am looking forward to incorporating these books in many more activities throughout the school year and in many more school years to come.
Thank you for enhancing our classroom library!”

Mrs. Jasewicz
Where in the World Do You Sit?
Funded Jan 26, 2010Thank you so much for the colorful, world map, carpet. The minute we placed it in the center of our meeting area the room brightened up. The carpet is beautiful. The colors are vivid and the continents are clearly labeled and identified.
Our new carpet serves many purposes now in our classroom. It provides a comfortable and clean place for students to sit when we meet on the floor. When students sit around it in a circle it serves as a world map. Fourth grade curriculum is rich in social studies content and we have been without a world map for way too long. We make reference to the locations of various places on a daily basis.
Thank you again for you kind contribution! Thanks to you, my students will easily learn the placement of all the oceans and continents.”

Mrs. Jasewicz
Terrific Books on Tape
Funded Nov 1, 2009Since our books on tape have arrived students have been able to use them during reading center rotations at our listening center. They like using them so much that they frequently request to listen to them during their free time or when they finish their work early.
Having new, grade level appropriate, books and CDs will greatly benefit my students in many ways. Each day they use them they are building their fluency while they listen and read along with the text. They are perfecting their listening skills and they will be very prepared for our New York State English Language Arts Test.
Thank you so much for your kind donations. You will always have a warm place in our hearts.”

Funded Oct 16, 2009Thank you for the wonderful donations. Our new listening center is getting lots of use during our daily guided reading center rotations.
Since the listening center is close to the ground students can easily gather around it. The headphones hang nice and neatly on the side and there are four blue containers for us to store books, cassettes, cd's and listening packets for students to access easily.
Our students still have a few more months to prepare for their New York State English Language Arts test and because of you the listening portion of the test will be a breeze for them. This new listening center will provide them with all the practice they need to ace their test and to better their listening comprehension. Thank you!”

Say Cheese - Capture Learning with a Digital Camera
Funded Jun 3, 2009Thank you for donating the digital camera, camera bag, memory card, and batteries to our classroom. The students have had a chance over the last few weeks to take pictures during instruction times. These pictures can immediately be loaded onto the computer for instant viewing gratification.
The pictures that we have taken are being included in our newsletters so that parents don't just read about what we are doing but can now see what we are doing in class. Now that students have become familiar with how to use the digital camera we are going to start our first project for science. We are learning about simple machines. Students are going to take pictures of different simple machines around the school. They are then going to use these photographs to make Power Point projects to share with other classes and posters to hang in the classroom to use as reference throughout the year.
Thanks to you our classroom has a wealth of technological opportunity at our fingertips. Thank you again!”

Funded Oct 1, 2009Thank you so much for donating these fun science materials to our classroom. When the science materials arrived my students squealed with delight.
Thanks to you I have been able to create a fun science center in our classroom for students to use as part of our daily center rotation and for when they finish their work early. In this center students can conduct experiments with energy, electricity, and magnets. While having fun, students are also learning core science concepts for New York State.
I greatly appreciate all of your support in making my classroom the most productive and engaging learning environment possible. Thank you again!”

Marshmallow Catapults and Roller Coasters
Funded Sep 19, 2009I am thrilled to announce that we have received our science materials. When the box arrived the students cheered. Thank you so much for donating these science materials to our class.
Thanks to you we have now created a science center in our classroom for students to explore different science concepts when they finish their work early or as part of one of our daily science rotations.
The science kits contain the resources to complete fun experiments and to create fun projects such as marshmallow catapults and roller coasters. By creating these and by conducting these experiments students are learning key science concepts for New York State. Thank you again!”

Funded May 25, 2009This is just a small token of my gratitude for your generous donations to my classroom. Your generosity to my classroom and I overwhelms me. When the package of science games and reading and writing center activities arrived today my students cheered.
We are starting to use these new games and materials during our center rotations times to reinforce important concepts taught and further their knowledge of key ideas. The students love them. They are much more fun than the normal paper and pencil routine. They also provide students with the opportunity to interact with one another and learn from each other.
Without donors like you, thousands of children in the United States would go without. Thank you!”

Funded May 31, 2009Words can not convey my gratitude. Your generosity to my classroom and I overwhelms me. When the packages of colored paper arrived today my students cheered.
The paper is going to be used for various projects throughout the school. For example, yesterday my students used the paper to create brochures on what they already know about energy to lead into our new science unit. In math, we used them to photocopy our math games to make them more visually appealing. We also used them to make fortune tellers to help us memorize our math facts. The bright colors of these papers really brighten up the children's' day and add an extra amount of excitement in learning about math and science. The paper is also going to be used by various other teachers and students throughout the building. The paper will be utilized as much as possible throughout the school year!
Thank you for your thoughtfulness. You are motivating young learners, brightening up our classroom, and you have truly enriched the learning of our students.”

Funded Apr 29, 2009Thank you for your generous donation to our class and to our school. We will be sharing all of the colored paper with the entire school. When the paper arrived my students cheered. They brought it down to the school secretary to keep in the office so that all teachers and students will have access to it.
The paper will be used for every subject. It will enhance our science and math lessons and will be a great teaching tool and resource.
We could not have done this without your help. You have helped an entire school. Thank you again!”
