Janney Elementary School is a public school from Pre-K through 5th grade. A part of the District of Columbia Public Schools, it enrolls approximately 740 students. Our goal at Janney is to be a community of learners built on a foundation of inquiry, equity, reflection, collaboration, and experimentation. We live these core values in our Art Studio by following the pedagogy of TAB: Teaching for Artistic Behavior, a methodology that promotes student voice and choice in structured learner-centered studio environments. Students take ownership of their learning by using critical thinking skills to make artistic decisions about the works they create. TAB studios build artistic skills through exploration and experimentation with a wide range of media and techniques. Students experience working like artists as they use the artistic studio process to create their ideas.
