I teach a third grade class at a school whose students come from three small, rural Iowa towns. Over one-third of our students receive free or reduced lunches, and our school has been classified as a school in need of assistance in the area of reading. Our math and science scores were also low. Our goal is to raise our reading, math, and science scores and provide our kids with the 21st century skills that they are going to need to grow into successful adults. Unfortunately, our school budget doesn't allow for us to afford to buy iPads for the classrooms. Many of our students only access to computer technology and working Internet is at school. That is what makes it so important that they have working devices in our classroom.
