Students in my urban school believe that eggs come from the grocery store! Although eggs do indeed get purchased in a store, I want to give them a deeper understanding of the life cycle of a chicken by allowing them to see the process from egg to chick. I teach in a high poverty urban school and want to give second language third graders a hands-on experience that will help to improve their vocabulary and make science both motivating and 'real'.
