I'm Janel Rowe and I'm a teacher at a special needs school, Bright Horizons. BH serves students with severe physical and intellectual challenges such as Autism, traumatic brain injury & Cerebral palsy. BH is a Broward County public school. We serve students K to age 22. While I'm a classroom teacher of 7 students, grades 3-5 with severe physical and intellectual challenges, my garden partner, Angela Portal & I have spearheaded 2 large garden projects where all students at Bright Horizons will have the opportunity to learn prevocational, vocational, social, behavioral, communication, physical therapy and occupational therapy skills. Our students have many sensory processing issues. The gardens focus is also on sensory processing integration. We plan to include families & community in special events targeted to educate students, staff, families & the community on the importance & benefits of nature based activities.
