Drumming Up A New Normal!
Funded Mar 12, 2019I am not sure that I can convey what a wonderful experience the "Dancing Drum Day" was for my school, students and staff! It has been a very difficult year due to the devastation to our community from Hurricane Florence. This event gave our staff and students joy, unity and a shared purpose that we haven't experienced in quite a while.
The students were able to apply what they have learned in music class in a performance setting and experience some new learning through the event. They were able to make geographical connections to the music they were creating and do so in a fun and engaging way.
We so appreciate the support from all of our donors and are so grateful to Dancing Drum for the preparation, patience, and willingness to make this day possible for our students. Every day since, a student or staff member (or both) have made mention of what a great day it was! Thanks again for helping us have the ability to hold this wonderful music event!”

Rockin' and Rollin' in the Music Room
Funded Jan 12, 2019Thank you so much for your support in getting the materials for our project. These items and instruments have made a huge impact on our music class because my students have had access to hand-on music making opportunities that they had not before.
Prior to getting the rolling carts for our bass xylophones, most of my students did not get to play these instruments often because the short transition times between classes made it impossible to get them out and set up for students. Some of the instruments were starting to break from being picked up so often and moved by hand from place to place.
The vibraslap and ratchet instruments have been an awesome addition to our set of "accessory" percussion instruments. They have allowed students to experience a new set of timbres and apply these sounds in sound stories and musical arrangements.
We are so grateful for a community that understands the importance of music education and that active music making is the best way for students to apply what they are learning creatively.”

Mrs. Copeland

Funded Mar 27, 2018Thank you so much for your generosity in providing these instruments for our school. It has been amazing to see my students' excitement while being introduced to and learning to play the ukulele. It is so motivating for them because they feel like they are getting to learn a "REAL" instrument that they see being played by other kids and adults, alike, in many capacities. The instruments are versatile enough that even my youngest students can have success, but my older students can be challenged by them, as well. They absolutely LOVE that the colors of the instruments match our school colors and wait with anticipation to see which color they will get (red or blue). I look forward to continuing to help my students build their repertoire on the ukulele and make them a standard part of our "instrumentarium" as we perform arrangements and accompany ourselves while singing and playing the recorder. I know these instruments will benefit students at my school for many years to come and grant them skills that they will be able to take with them to middle school and beyond. Thanks again for the wonderful gift of music!”

Funded Feb 21, 2018My 3rd grade students have been able to use our "KidStix" kits during our last week of school and I cannot wait to share with many more students at the beginning of next school year and beyond! They love that they have their own special "drum set" and REAL drumsticks to practice reading rhythms. It is a fun way to experience music and many of them have already said that they are going to find items at home to make their own kit to play outside of school. So many of my students will be able to experience music reading at their appropriate level through these "Kidstix" kits. Thank you so much for giving so generously so that my students and I can have this experience in our classroom!”
