  • Curious Pre-Readers!

    Funded Apr 3, 2023

Thank you so much for your contribution that helped fund my project! These materials have been a great addition to our classroom .

I slowly add the alphabet puzzles as we learn different letters and their sounds. I first introduce them as a whole group activity. The children each take a turnn taking a piece of puzzle and putting in the correct place in the puzzle. They name the picture /or the letter and the sound that the letter makes. I then add the puzzle to our puzzle center for the children to futher explore during Center Time. These puzzles not only help with learning letters they help with fine motor and language development.

The Rhyming and Beginning sounds boxes are used during whole group and small group work during Center Time. The reinforce the concepts that we are learning and help with language development. I have many children who are second language learners and with the use of these hands on materials helps them with English vocabulary development.”

We will read the magazine, talk about the numbers that are on the pictures. My students learn about reading from left to right when I model when reading the magazine.

We do that activity on the back of the magazine during small group time. These activities help my students develop their fine motor skills along with number, letter recognition and matching skills.

We will watch the video that goes along with the topic of the month's magazine. We will do the online game as a group on our class Clear Touch screen. This month we did the Nocturnal Matching game which went with our science topic of Nocturnal Animals and the story of the Kissing Hand.”

My class includes 3-5 years old children with special needs, along with regular education students. Some of my student are English Language Learners. Because of the diversity of the children in my classroom they learn so much from each other , through interacting during snack and learning center time. I see such growth in the children by the time they leave my classroom in June. The children can invite a family member to visit their classroom. Our school is a wonderful place for children and their families. We are not only supportive of the children but their families also. We have many activities during the day and in the evenings for families to participate in.
