At a time when it is nearly impossible to get students to read anything, my students stand out as a group of scholars who not only want to read, but borrow and return books each week. My students are devouring books. The most recent book in my classroom library is about 5 years old, and my students still race to borrow their favorites, pass them around to students with different teachers, and ask for new book recommendations like their favorites. Books like Marked, of the House of Night series, are to replace lost copies of well-loved series while books like Long Way Down provide students an opportunity to delve into realistic fiction that strikes close to home for them.
