Technology For Tomorrow
Funded Mar 12, 2016Thank you so much for donating! Incorporating technology seamlessly into teaching is something I strongly believe in. I want my students to be able to use as much technology as possible. Our world is becoming more technology based in many areas, so why not the classroom!! These Amazon Fire Tablets open a world of opportunity to my students. It has changed the instruction my students are receiving dramatically. The apps we are using on the tablets are helping them read, write, and learn other subjects. I am seeing students become more independent and taking their learning into their own hands. They now are so excited to receive their tablet and explore the apps, like BrainPop Jr. My students are so ecstatic about these videos and are sharing the knowledge they learned with their classmates. These conversations are wonderful to overhear and gets other students excited about using the tablets when it's their turn.
I've also seen many students helping their friends and classmates when it comes to the tablets. They are helping their friends to turn it on and find the different apps they can use. Their teaching has helped many other students become pros with this app. It is wonderful seeing this student working together on the tablets. This teamwork is what every teacher wants to see and I see it on a daily basis.
Lastly, this tablet has reinforced the English skills taught throughout my class time. As the English teacher in a dual immersion program where most of the day is spent in Mandarin, this reinforcement helps all students. It allows all students to review skills taught as well as pre-teach skills that are coming. This extra support is a great use for these tablets. I feel truly lucky to be able to have this opportunity for my students. I have seen a major impact and students remembering important skills. Furthermore, the skills they are learning both technology and English Language Arts skills are ones that will continue on with them as they move to different grades. I am positive these Amazon Fire Tablets will help my students become 21st-century technology, advanced students.”

This classroom project was brought to life by #BestSchoolDay and 12 other donors.Building our Brains BrainPop!
Funded Sep 24, 2015This project has opened the door to my students. They love learning new things through their friends Annie and Moby. It has been a wonderful resource that has been used in all my four classes, kindergarten, and first grade. I also had the opportunity to share it with the other kindergarten and first grade English classes and with my Mandarin co-teacher. This project has touched more students than I could have ever imagined.
Whenever I use BrainPop Jr as a whole class, the students will cheer out loud! They get so excited to learn something new and ask me daily if we're going to watch BrainPop Jr. This is one of their favorite activities to do and we do it so often because they're so excited and into it. I have seen so many students get excited about technology and wanting to use BrainPop Jr on the Chromebooks during independent work. They always play these videos first before other ones. They are by far the most popular computer station in my class!
BrainPop Jr has helped my students in many ways, especially with their question skills. I get at least 2-6 hands shoot up after each video with more questions about the topic and hand. It is so exciting to see my students become deeper thinkers. Many times, I will go to the library and check out books on the different topics we learned about using BrainPop Jr because they have so many great questions afterward!
One of the most exciting lessons we did using BrainPop Jr was for African American month. We watched the video on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and it was amazing to see how interested my students became and how they wanted to learn more about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We couldn't get through the movie because my students were asking such detailed and interesting questions. After the video on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr we watched the other movies on Harriet Tubman, George Washington Carver, and Rosa Parks. It was such a wonderful way to celebrate African American History month!
Thank you so much for this opportunity to share BrainPop Jr with my students. You have touched them deeply by your generous donations. BrainPop Jr has become a staple in my classroom and my students and I wouldn't have it any other way.”
