Funded Jun 13, 2018I want to start off by saying thank you. This flexible seating arrangement started off as an experiment. What would happen if I taught my students how to advocate for themselves. If students choice and voice in their learning environment improved academic success. In the beginning, the kids loved all the shiny new stuff but by the end of the school year I found a real connection and that due to student choice and voice my students grew from 30% to 60% proficiency by the end of first grade.
The a-ha moment was when I heard my students using conflict resolution skills to make plans of seating arrangements. When they were able to explain their thinking as why they needed certain seating or partnerships and how it all came back to their learning.
Due to the results in my class, my school has purchase flexible seating for all spaces in our school, are encouraging universal learning designs, and our school district has asked us to be a part of universal learning design pilot program. All of which may not have happened with out the original support of you.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Jackson
