Guiding Readers to be Leaders.
Funded Mar 27, 2018Thank you so much for the generous donation to our classroom. These books have made a world of difference to what reading instruction looks like in our classroom. It is vital, in order for students to become life-long, enthusiastic readers, to have access to high quality literature. The students in my classroom range drastically in their reading levels and these books give readers at all levels, no matter their ability, the opportunity to engage with their favorite characters and build their reading skills by analyzing a variety or different types of texts. My students are able to analyze the characters in the text and learn about how they change throughout a text. They are also learning to identify the problem in the story and analyze how the characters attempt to reach a solution for their problems. Additionally, readers in my classroom are able to participate in literature circles to build their discussion skills while reading and thinking about the same text.
In our classroom, we utilize a workshop model during our daily reader's workshop time where students are introduced to a skill and are able to try that skill out in their own individual book bins. Students shop daily for high interest, high quality books to read during this time and at their leisure when finished with their daily classwork. During this time, I also meet with guided reading groups to help students build their reading skills and grow in their reading level to reach or exceed grade level benchmarks. Students develop their own reading goals and work hard during this time to master skills taught and apply them in their daily reading.
All of the students in my class are so excited for our new guided reading books. When we opened the box of materials their eyes widened with anticipation for their group to meet and begin their reading work with our new books! We can not wait to read them all and to practice our skills during guided reading time. Even my most reluctant readers are curious and have show willingness and enthusiasm to read.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for supporting our class, and all the classes around the country. Your support of public education is an inspiration and we could not do it without the support of people like you!”

Funded Dec 26, 2017Thank you so much for your donation to our classroom. Your generous contributions allowed us to purchase vital technology that we use each and every day to grow our math skills. Our new tablets allow every student to work 1:1 with technology. Previously, students had to share tablets and were not able to work on their individual needs at the technology center during our daily math rotations. In our classroom we use IXL, an online, adaptive program, that tracks student data and allows me to see where they are struggling. This data is invaluable in helping me plan small group instruction and create supports to help my students fill the gaps in their learning. My students love being able to choose different activities to work on and have their own devices to practice their skills on. They often challenge one another to see who can earn the top scores and love to share the medals that they earn on IXL as they master different skills. We love our new tablets and know that they will help us to grow and be successful in second grade and beyond! Thank you!”
