  • Wonderful WonderBots!

    Funded Sep 19, 2019

Wow! Words just can not describe our gratitude for your generous donations. Each time a project gets funded for our classroom, my heart grows and grows to watch the excitement in the eyes of my students. We are loving our new class robo-pet. We took a survey and voted on his name- Dash! The students are amazed by all of the cool things that he is able to do and are eager to earn time to work on coding new paths for him to maneuver through. He also helps keep a watchful eye over the class when I am out at workshops and meetings. We are so thankful for the opportunity to add such interactive and fun technology to our classroom. Thank you!”

  • Flexible Seating for Flexing Our Minds!

    Funded Jul 8, 2019

We received our new flexible seating items today and we are so incredibly excited. My students can not wait to use the surf desks with their laptops and tablets during our math center rotations. We also received our floor cushions as well. They are so durable and comfy and the kids loved sitting on them today during literature circles and independent reading time. They are so cool and will provide us with seating options that will help us learn at our best! I added a pillow to our pillow case today and now, when the students enter our room daily, they will be greeted with the inspirational message "The best thing about this classroom, is who I share it with" each and every day. It is a daily reminder that they are loved and valued and that our room is a safe space for them. The amount of oohs and ahhs when unboxing our new learning tools made my heart full. I think these materials will truly transform our learning. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!”

  • Multicultural and Mindfulness Materials!

    Funded Aug 14, 2019

Thank you so much for the multicultural and mindfulness materials for our classroom. Social emotional learning is so incredibly important especially in today's world. My students are so excited to use the multicultural markers and crayons to draw self portraits that look like them and have their diverse skin tones. My students were so excited to see our new books- complete with characters that look just like them! It is so valuable and empowering for kids to relate to and see themselves in the pages of their favorite books! The social emotional games and discussion cards will help my students learn positive mental heath strategies for acknowledging how they feel and for coping with their emotions. Thank you so much for these valuable tools.”

  • Cricut in the Classroom

    Funded Mar 1, 2019

Thank you so much for these wonderful additions to our classroom. My students love using the Cricut design space to design and create images to put on T-shirt's, pencil pouches and other materials in our classroom. The colorfully sheets of Htv vinyl look strikingly beautiful and the heat pad helps us to use our heatpress safely. We completed our first project of making school T-shirts that we will be selling to raise money for our school! We can't wait to try our hands at some new projects during Friday Clubs.”

  • Kids Capturing Kodak Moments

    Funded Dec 18, 2018

In our classroom, we follow Steven Covey's philosophy of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Students are encouraged to show the 7 habits and to be leaders each day. One way we show our leadership skills is by taking on different leadership roles within our classroom and throughout our school. One of the leadership roles within our classroom is our Classroom Photographer. Our photographer is responsible for capturing photos of our learning and sharing them on Class Dojo. This allows our parents to get a firsthand glimpse into what we are doing in the classroom on a daily basis.

The new materials, a digital camera, memory card and case will allow our photographer to capture the best photos and create a portfolio of photos to be shared. We have a classroom instagram display as well where pictures of students are displayed proudly. Before these tools, students were using an outdated camera and an old iPhone to capture pictures. This made it difficult to instantly share photos on ClassDojo.

The use of this technology helps us to capture our learning each and every day. It also instills a sense of excitement and responsibility in the students. They are more motivated to be the subject of the photograph and are so excited to apply for this new leadership role. Thank you for the new technology and resources! We can't wait to share our Kodak moments with you all!”

  • Full STEAM (Supplies) Ahead!

    Funded Jan 9, 2019

Thank you so much for the Lego Sets for our classroom. Out school has recently become a Magnet school and our Magnet theme promotes STEAM Education and Leadership. In our classroom, one way we infuse the STEAM theme is by having a weekly Clubs period where students get to choose to engage in their choice of a STEAM themed Club. One of the most popular clubs inner room is a LEGO club.

Students use the Lego sets to build and create scenes. Then, they write creative stories to go along with the scene they created. They can also use our new digital camera resources to photograph their LEGO scene to go with their writing. They also use the Legos to build famous world structures and other items on task cards in our STEAM center. Without these materials, only 3 or 4 students would be able to use this center. However, now many more students are able to participate in this exciting new club!

My students were so excited to receive our two new bins of LEGOS. They were oohing and aahing and can't wait for Clubs this Friday to be the first to try them out. We are still awaiting our paper trays from Lakeshore but can't wait to use them to help organize our classroom. Thank you for the exciting new STEAM materials!”

  • Making Math "Easel"!

    Funded Dec 27, 2018

Thank you so much for the wonderful easel! Each and every day it is used throughout the day for small group lessons and to display our anchor charts to support out learning. It is vital to our daily math instruction.

In our classroom, we use guided math stations each day to practice the new math skills we are learning. With the easel, I am able to use our magnetic manipulative to model for students. Students are also able to come up to the board and show their strategies to their peers in order to lead their own learning.

When my students first saw their new materials, they were in awe. The smiles on their faces were immeasurable and a feeling that I could never replicate. It was so wonderful to see how excited they were. It is so humbling to get such overwhelming support from complete strangers. Thank you again for supporting our learning!”

  • Talkin' About Numbers

    Funded Sep 28, 2018

Thank you so much for the generous donation to our classroom. My students were thrilled to unpack our box of goodies and see our new learning tools. We love the manipulative and the daily number talk cards and the posters are so well designed and a helpful addition to our classroom anchor charts. We use our number talk kit every day to kick off our math rotations.

The Math Number Talk kit has been such a welcome addition to my daily math instruction. My students are able to build their accountable talk while persevering through number talks. These resources are so helpful in allowing my students to see the many different approaches and strategies they can use to solve various equations. You can really see the difference in their problem solving skills on their daily exit tickets- especially in their written explanations of how they solved each problem.

Currently, my students are working on problem solving using units of measure including time, volume and mass. They are working to solve tricky multistep story problems and are able to apply what they have learned from these daily number talks to help them approach and successfully solve these story problems. The hope is to model number talks to my colleagues through intervisitations. This will allow my colleagues to see number talks in action and to implement them in their own classrooms too! Thank you again for the support of my students and our school!”

  • Making Math "Easel"!

    Funded Sep 21, 2018

Thank you so much for the addition of a beautiful easel to our classroom. My students are so excited to use the easel during our guided math rotations. In our classroom, we use daily guided math rotations to teach difficult math concepts to students in a hands on, engaging way. Today, we used our new easel to create arrays to show multiplication using magnetic tiles. We then related the multiplication sentences we created to division and wrote related facts. While student volunteers modeled to our group on our easel, the remaining students created the arrays on their own personal whiteboards on the rug. We were also able to use our easel to debrief our math lesson by solving a story problem and marking up the important parts using the SOLVE strategy.

When we first received our easel, I wasn't sure who was more excited, me or my students. They walked in and were "oohing" and "aaahing" at how beautiful it is. They helped me to set it up by using magnets to attach our math vocabulary to the board for review during our daily lessons. They also helped me to put our magnetic math manipulatives on it too. We chose mentor texts to display on the tray for reading and writing and were even able to display our anchor charts from it too! It has been so useful and does not take up much space at all in our small classroom. We are so thrilled with our new tools!

Our students will be able to now apply their new learning of arrays and multiplication to identify real world arrays on a scavenger hunt. Students will hunt through our classroom and building to find and describe all of the arrays that are present at school. They will be able to explain what makes each item an array and will write a multiplication sentence to describe each array they find. They will create posters to share and display with their classmates. They are learning so much in math thanks to your generosity!”

  • Bundles of Books!

    Funded Sep 6, 2018

Thank you so much for the bundles of books you have donated to our classroom! We are so excited and appreciative of the new materials. In our classroom, our third graders are preparing for NYS ELA exams for the first time. This exam require students to read and analyze challenging texts while analyzing and making connections to what they read. These books will be used to guide students through this process in an engaging way. Students will learn to make inferences based on the read alouds, will retell what they've read, make predictions based on story events and even make text to self, text to text and text to world connections.

In our classroom, we use reader's workshop to help students learn and practice reading skills. We read literature and discuss it together. We look at craft moves use in our favorite titles, written by our favorite authors, such as Owl Moon and Come on Rain. We are even able to transfer these noticings into our own writing. Students engage in reading both independently and with their reading partner. We work in small group to focus in on tricky reading skills to help us build up our reading lives and reach the reading goals we selected for ourselves. We celebrate our success together after each unit too!

Many of the students in my class come from tough home lives. Most of my students do not have access to books outside of our classroom. These books will give students the exposure to many different types of texts and will hopefully instill a love of reading and learning in my students. Thank you again so much from the bottom of our hearts!”
