  • iPads for ABCs

    Thank you so much for your generosity! The iPads have been such an exciting tool in our classroom. The iPads have helped to build confidence and empower our first grade learners!

    There are many apps that the students have loved exploring. Students have had the opportunity to build their fluency and decoding strategies by both listening to and reading books. They have also been building their comprehension by answering questions about books they have read. Other apps the students are enjoying, focus on learning letter names and sounds through songs and games, as well as letter formation.

    Having access to iPads has allowed for differentiation amongst students. Within our class community we have English Language Learners, and the iPads have greatly supported their learning of foundational skills. There has been growth with the ability to match letter names with sounds and students are eager to build words! The iPads have allowed students to explore books, learn about 1:1 correspondence, and follow patterns within books. They have also given the students the opportunity to build their vocabulary.

  • Soaring into a Successful School Year!

    This school year has been off to a successful start, thanks to you! The students love to sit on the rug in our library and cozy up with books. It is now also an area where I am able to work with small groups. We gather in the library more comfortably and have the opportunity to spread out in our classroom.

    The timers have been super helpful with building stamina. Students feel proud when they flip the timer multiple times in a period, and are motivated to keep going! The timers also help the students better understand time. They use the timers to keep track of how much time they have left in a center or with an activity as well as to help strengthen transitions.

    The students love to use the noise-canceling headphones! They have helped students take ownership of their learning. Whether they grab headphones at the start of the period, or during the period to re-focus and stay engaged with their work, they have been a really positive addition to our classroom.

  • Mentor Texts to Support Eager Learners

    We are so grateful to have such wonderful and generous donors! With the support of your generous donations, students have multiple texts to refer to when writing in various genres. If a student faces writer's block, s/he now has different books to refer to, which has strengthened engagement and confidence.

    Since their arrival, students have been engaging with these amazing mentor texts! They have been so excited to hear and learn from these pieces of literature. Students have been able to to use these books as models for their own pieces. They often feel inspired, and consistently refer back to them throughout the writing units.

    As new writing units are introduced, students are eager to see and hear the texts that have been kindly donated by you! I look forward to seeing their smiling, and eager faces as I continue to introduce these special texts!”

  • Captivate Confidence with Chromebooks!

    Thank you so much for your generous donations that allowed us to receive Chromebooks and headphones! The day that the Chromebooks arrived the students were thrilled to open them and wanted them to be set up right away!

    The addition of this technology to our classroom has heightened engagement and confidence. Students are able to read more independently, which allows me to work with more students. This has especially helped my students who are reading below grade level, as when they are not working with me they can be supported through online reading programs. This keeps them engaged and reading for longer periods of time! It has been wonderful to see their stamina grow as it allows them to be stronger readers.

    In the near future I plan to introduce programs that will support my students' math growth as well. It is so helpful that I am able to support my students at their diverse reading and math levels. The students are truly thrilled that this technology is now home in our classroom.”
