Students work in small groups during our intervention and enrichment block. We call it Power Up Time in 1st grade. As groups rotate, students are not always with a teacher. An iPad will help students practice literacy (sight words, handwriting, phonics, and reading) and math skills in a fun way. Apps such as Freckle and Xtra Math keep track of student progress, so that students who are above the first grade curriculum can be challenged at higher levels. Students who have specific interests can read and learn about topics important to them, on sites such as Pebble Go, EPIC Books, and Reading A-Z. The benefits of this technology, when used to support instruction, will significantly impact student learning. Using iPads to gain knowledge allows for endless possibilities!
