STEM-ulating Our Love for Science!
Funded Mar 1, 2020We can NOT thank you enough for allowing us to have these materials so we can learn, engage and find new ways to explore!
The students have loved being able to "dig for dinosaur bones" look at things through different lenses, and find ways to make things move.
The students were beyond happy and excited to see that the materials you funded were for them!
We will continue to use these tools throughout the year and find ways to implement them in different areas other than science!
We are off to go explore! This weeks STEM card focuses on finding different shapes throughout the environment.
Thank you agan for your contribution to our learning :)”

Making Each Day COUNT!
Funded Nov 28, 2018My students are loving their new resources and that they can use them throughout many different times of the day! We are using our counters in our math center, circle time, small groups and free choice activities. One of the standards that we focused on throughout the month of January was counting 1-10 and identifying numbers 1-10. By using many different math manipulatives, the students can count in many ways while applying their knowledge to environmental examples. Students love using the sift and find number shells in our sand box. A student of mine that is visually impaired, uses the counters daily to pair the number we are working on for that week, with the number of items that he has. By placing these counters on a light table, he is also able to see shadows, depth and outline of the objects aiding in his learning.
The reaction upon receiving the new materials was priceless. This year, I was entering a new classroom and a new grade level that did not leave behind any math curriculum manipulatives for the students, so it was my mission to find tools to aid in their learning. The students were extremely excited to see manipulatives that were familiar to them including dinosaur, fruit and teddy bear counters. The student's helped me unload the box and put the items in their correct work station and they loved to see the different builders including pipe and star builders. Their favorite is the waffle builders and they like to create statues and connect them to each other during their free inside play.
We will continue to work with the students on counting and delving into the world of numbers! These math manipulatives have given the students life when learning about all the different objects and ways to count! I will carry on using the manipulatives next year as well as during the summer for the students who attend the summer program. Upcoming in March and April we will be focusing on counting from 10-20, skip counting and matching like objects. Using our Unifix Cubes and Peg Number Counters will help greatly when learning this new skill. The giant magnetic numbers will continue to be used in our magnetic center and we can match them with the color bug counters to use for 1:1 correspondence.”
