  • Basic Training

    Funded Dec 15, 2024

Thank you for the generous donations. The children were ecstatic to receive new play equipment. Sports help children develop physical skills, exercise, make friends, have fun, learn teamwork, play fair, and improve self-esteem. Being engaged in regular physical activity gives the children the opportunity to create healthy life-long habits.

Soccer is the sport most requested by older children for practice or play. The children enjoy playing soccer inside and outside. The younger children enjoy playing basketball and kickball more than anything. We appreciate your support.”

  • Books for Health and Wellness

    Funded Dec 16, 2024

Thank you for your generous donations. The girls are excited to have personal journals that they can write in. They are enjoying discussing and writing responses to the prompts in the books. They are learning to take a close look at themselves. They've shared their personal strengths and identified areas of improvement. They've set short term and long term goals. The mindfulness activity books remind the girls to be patient and give them actionable plans to follow every day. Thank you for supporting teachers and children.”

  • Warm Hats for Cool Kids!

    Funded Jan 15, 2025

Thank you!!! A few hats were unavailable; I ordered gloves and mittens for our pre-k students to replace them. The hats, gloves, and mittens arrived right on time. It's been freezing outside! We are expecting freezing rain and snow today. Every child who wanted or needed a hat was given one. The children were excited to choose their favorites. Some children chose hats to match their friends so the could be "twins". The little ones loved having their own warm, colorful gloves or mittens. The striped ones were the top choice. Thank you for giving us the gift of warmth. We appreciate you.”

  • Cozy Coats

    Funded Dec 9, 2024

Thank you for all of your generous donations. The coats arrived just as we returned from break. It is getting very cold in New York City so the requests for warm coats started coming in. The new coats came right on time. We were able to provide most of them with a new coat. Our students often stay home if they do not have warm clothing. Providing coats keeps our students in attendance so their learning isn't interrupted. Thank you for your support of our students. You are making a difference every day.”

  • Can I Have a Snack?

    Funded Dec 31, 2024

Thank you for your generosity. The snacks arrived as we returned from break.

The younger students have been enjoying the cookies and pretzels. The older children eat everything! We have a long day and the children need snacks to make it through the day, fueled and ready to learn. I leave some snacks in a bin in the front of my room for the children to grab and go as they pass by my room on their way to class; A few who stop by every morning. Your donations ensure that no child goes hungry.”

  • Board Books For 3K & 4K

    Funded Dec 17, 2024

Thank you for your generous donations. As soon as the boxes arrived the babies were ready to dig in! I introduced reading a book as a way to relax. After exercising and dancing, the children were given time to choose a book to read. Most of the books are small, toddler-size so they fit right in their little hands. The books about animals, transportation, and food were the clear favorites. Some children are learning to hold a book properly and turn the pages. Other children are already connecting pictures with words and recognizing letter sounds. Thank you for gifting our students the love of reading for leisure.”

  • Bye-Bye Boring Bulletin Board

    Funded Sep 18, 2024

Thank you for your donation to this project which will last all year! Our bulletin boards have been a hit! The children and staff are taking notice. Teachers have stopped with their classes to admire and read bulletin boards. The Hispanic Heritage posters were borrowed daily to read during morning announcements. The entire school population learned about a different person every day. Another favorite is the positive mindset bulletin board. The students love how the decor matches the decor inside our classroom and the language used is child-friendly enough for them to read and understand independently. The children often quote and refer to the board.”

  • It's Laundry Day!

    Funded Aug 14, 2024

Thank you for funding this project. The laundry supplies have finally arrived! Many of our families do not have access to washers and dryers in their homes. It is costly to wash clothing at local laundry mats. Children often miss school when they have nothing clean to wear. Having clean clothing boosts self-esteem and confidence to be successful in school. We can also wash clothing when the little ones have an accident. The laundry items included in this project will ensure that our students feel good, look good and, are ready to focus on learning.”

  • Energy for Learning

    Funded Aug 14, 2024

Wow! The snacks have arrived. The cabinet is full!! Thank you so much for funding this big snack project. Every grade has their favorites. This project includes something for everyone. The younger children like to eat cookies, crackers and fruit cups. The older children enjoy chips, cereal, trail mix and fruit cups but they will eat any and everything! Nothing ever goes to waste.

Thanks to The Gates Foundation for matching donations on this project. The work you all are doing together to support our classrooms is amazing and greatly appreciated.”

My school serves 500 children in pre-kindergarten 3/4-5th grade in New York City. The majority of our students reside in a nearby public housing development. We also have students from families living in homeless shelters, a high percentage of students that are new to the country (ENL) and students that receive special education services. All of our students receive free lunch. This year, I get to share yoga, health and wellness with all children, 3k- fifth! I also teach STEM, reading and theater. Although my students face many challenges, they show up and give it their best daily. It is my wish to level the playing field to give my kids a chance at a better education. I've seen former students go on to do amazing things! Any donation large or small will be greatly appreciated and used to enhance the educational lives of my awesome scholars. :)
