  • Share Knowledge Not Germs

    Funded Jul 29, 2021

Thank you for your generous donations. Having cleaning supplies to prepare the classrooms is more important than it's ever been. Children, families and staff are very concerned about everyone returning to school in the building. The supplies purchased for this project will allow us to have a clean, healthy start to our in person school year. Thank you!

The children are learning to be more independent and responsible.

They take pride in having and keeping a clean classroom. They take turns sharing the maintenance jobs. Using the Swiffer sweeper is their favorite job; They love it!”

    Ms. Hines

  • Make Em Dance!

    Funded Jun 6, 2021

Thank you so much for your generous donations. Before school was shut down due to COVID, my students were well on their way to becoming expert coders! The computer teacher taught them the basics in our computer lab and then they were able to practice coding hands-on with our robots. The IPads will be used to control our robots. I can't wait to introduce a whole new group of children to Dash and Dot!

The children will be able to learn the basics of coding while having fun with Dash and Dot. Thank you for supporting teachers and children.”

  • Chill Out Zone

    Funded Jun 7, 2021

Thank you for supporting this project to give my students a comfortable area to sit , learn, play and relax. I think this new sitting area will become their favorite place to "gather" and keep within social distancing guidelines. The children have been out of the classroom for over a year. When they were last in the classroom, they enjoyed sitting and working close together in different areas of our room including large tables, couch and a rug. We are no longer be allowed to have those areas due to social distancing. Hopefully the kids will love the chairs as much as they loved the couch. Thank you for making it happen!”

  • My Space 4

    Funded May 4, 2021

Thank you for your generous donations! Many families are uneasy about sending their children back into crowded classrooms. We don't know how many children will be allowed in each classroom. Having single desks available in the classroom will allow us to provide a safe space for students that have medical conditions or who aren't comfortable with sitting at large tables with a group. No one is taking a look at how classroom furniture and set up may need to be changed. This desk will give personal space to one student. Thank you for your support of children and teachers.”

  • We Love Scholastic Magazines

    Funded May 3, 2021

Thank you so much for supporting this project. We request Scholastic News and Science Spin magazines every year; This is the fastest it was ever funded. We are ready to begin the school year in September thanks to your generosity!

This subscriptions are a valuable part of our classroom. The children have access to magazines with easier and more challenging levels for every article. They can also read or listen to the articles in English or Spanish.

The subscription includes lots of videos to support every article and topic. There is something for every student in these magazines. Thank you for choosing us! We appreciate you.”

  • Who Cares? We Do!

    Funded Apr 7, 2021

Thank you for your generous donations to this very special project. Our entire clothing section will receive a much needed a make over with the addition of these racks. We were lucky enough to get a few coats donated for next school year. Instead of the coats being kept in huge garbage bags, they will now be hung nicely so students can easily find a coat that they love and fits them well. Having the items neatly organized will make it a positive experience for the children and save the teachers time. Thanks again for donating to our Care Closet.”

  • Reach and Teach

    Funded Mar 16, 2021

Thank you for supporting this professional development project; Even though I've been teaching for more than 20 years, I try to remain current with new ideas and ways to help my students learn more.

Culturally responsive teaching recognizes the importance of including students culture in all aspects of education. Children from homes in which the language and culture do not closely correspond to that of the school may be at a disadvantage in the learning process. These children often become alienated and feel disengaged from learning. People from different cultures learn in different ways. Their expectations for learning may be different.

The books included in this project will help me deliver more engaging lessons for my students. My favorite book so far discusses how to bring joy into every lesson. Sometimes we are so bogged down with tests and standards that we forget to let our little humans just enjoy learning for learnings sake.”

  • Tic Tok with Dash & Dot

    Funded Apr 14, 2021

Thank you for your generous donations, Our new Das and Dot pairs were welcomed with open arms and huge smiles. The children look forward to continue learning how to code. The children decide what they want the robots to do and then come up with a plan (code) to make it happen. The codes or commands can be very simple like move forward. As the children become more familiar with coding, they can code the robots to do more complicated tasks such as dancing or playing catch. Introducing them to robots now will better prepare them for the future.”

  • Calm Coloring Books

    Funded Mar 15, 2021

Thank you for your generous donations. The coloring books were paired with a box of crayons funded through another project; It was a nice treat for the children. Most of them have been sheltered in their homes for a year now. Parents are being very cautious due to COVID. Playing for hours outside is out of the question so they need a way to have fun besides television and video games. I know they love painting, drawing and coloring. We had plenty of art time in class. Some children don't have art supplies at home and those who had it at the beginning of the year, were in need of replacements. Having the coloring books and crayons gives them a way to be creative.”

  • Math Zone

    Funded Mar 16, 2021

Thank you for supporting this project for math odds and ends. Multiplication and division are the two most important math topics that the children have to master this year.

Multiplication only gets better with lots of practice and memorization.

The division and multiplication triangles are being used to give the children a visual as they memorize the multiplication facts. They can be used as a game; we cover the product or one of the factors and the children have to figure out what number is hidden.

This project also includes an organizer and computer stands to keep our devices at a safe distance to see and safe from falls. Thank you for supporting a project requesting basics. :)”

My school serves 500 children in pre-kindergarten 3/4-5th grade in New York City. The majority of our students reside in a nearby public housing development. We also have students from families living in homeless shelters, a high percentage of students that are new to the country (ENL) and students that receive special education services. All of our students receive free lunch. This year, I get to share yoga, health and wellness with all children, 3k- fifth! I also teach STEM, reading and theater. Although my students face many challenges, they show up and give it their best daily. It is my wish to level the playing field to give my kids a chance at a better education. I've seen former students go on to do amazing things! Any donation large or small will be greatly appreciated and used to enhance the educational lives of my awesome scholars. :)
