In my classroom, I am always looking for new and innovative ways to motivate my students and instill a love for reading. In the age of technology, it is proven that an actual book in a child's hand is still the best way to hook them into reading. By providing a new reading carpet and flashlights, my students will love a new way to silent read. Once a week students will find a cozy spot around the room and explore new books during "Flashlight Friday". I can't wait to see those little lights skimming across pages as the students are engaged reading in the dark. (They may also buy additional flashlight times with points they earn in the classroom.)
