Loving a Great Book in the Classroom Library
Funded Aug 22, 2018Once again thank you for making my project a reality for my students. I remember the day when the bookshelf arrived to the school and seeing my children's eyes light up as I opened the box and began to place some books on the bookshelf. My students started dancing and jumping around the new bookshelf as we set up our new class library area.
As a teacher, seeing my students get so excited about having a new bookshelf and want to share the love of reading was priceless.
We are using the bookshelf as our classroom library center where I have two sitting areas and stuffed animal reading buddies for the students to read to. I sit with the students and share the joy of reading with them by reading stories to them as well as review phonics sounds during my reading intervention. The children also do their literature circles during small group instruction at the library center where the bookshelf is the focal point. Finally, the library center is an area where the students have their safe spot if they need to take a time out to reflect about any situation that they are going through.
The bookshelf has made a tremendous impact for student learning as well as confidence in my classroom. My students are now more motivated to read, so for my next steps for this project is to provide my students with more books to fill our bookshelf. I have already made this a reality because I purchase books on a daily bases for my students. As a teacher I love to instill the love of reading everyday.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Degiacomo
