Comfy Reading Time!
Funded Jan 2, 2018Your support and generosity towards my project made it possible for me to receive resources to improve the quality of education for my current and future students! All of the students are loving our new resources. The materials got delivered during class time and it was awesome to see their excitement as we opened up the boxes. The students decided the best place to put the bean bag chairs would be in the classroom library beside our bookshelf and they look great! They have helped create a cozy and comfortable reading environment. The cushion seats also sit in the library. During independent time, the students are able to take them to a spot of their choice in the room to read. These cushion seats allow them to pick a "perfect reading spot" depending on their personal preferences. Students have commented on how comfortable they are and also how nice and colorful they look. The students have also been enjoying their whisper phones. I've noticed on the first day of students using them how helpful they are in making students aware of their voice level while reading. They help the students keep their reading voice at an appropriate noise level that isn't distracting to other students. I also am certain these whisper phones are helping the students develop their fluency.
Our new books about money are also being enjoyed. Students are more likely to be motivated to read a story if the topic interests them. Last month, we spent time reading different financial literacy books and the students really enjoyed it. My books on this topic were limited so I am super grateful I now have a variety of books on this topic to offer students. Additionally, they are super grateful they now have a chance to continue to read about a topic that interests them! Thanks for helping to make our classroom an even greater place!”

Funded Aug 16, 2017I can not thank you enough for your generosity! The resources I received thanks to your donations has truly helped improve the learning environment in my classroom! The students have had so much fun using our new Science resources. They kept the students so engaged and gave them a hands on experience. The books and kits on rocks and minerals was perfect to go along with our study of Earth materials. The students were able to not only hear about the different types of rocks, but they were also able to get a first hand look of them thanks to our rocks and mineral kits. One activity we did was observe the different types of rocks using our five senses. The students also loved having access to the books about earth to read during their independent reading time.
Another thing the students have enjoyed (and will continue enjoying) is our Lego Kits! It was priceless seeing how excited they all were when I brought out all of the boxes of Legos and explained to them how we would get to use them to do STEM activities. Every Friday, we use the Lego Kits to complete "STEM Challenges". It is awesome seeing and hearing the students work together to build different things. Last week, a group of students worked together to build a town and it looked great! These LEGO Stem Challenges give my students the chance to practice working together, and to also think "outside the box" to build and create.
My students and I have enjoyed many of these materials, and look forward to using them in the future! One thing my students are really looking forward to is Earth Day. Reading all of the books about recycling and taking care of the Earth has made my students more conscious of the importance of doing their part to take care of our planet. They always ask me to read the books and can't wait to learn more about ways to take care of Earth during Earth Day! Your generosity has helped me make learning meaningful, fun and exciting for my students.”

Funded Feb 22, 2017Your donations towards my classroom has helped my students and myself greatly! We have been able to make it to the end of the year without any worries of running out of paper. Being apart of a school district that is underfunded is a constant struggle, and we often lack the most basic supplies teachers and students need to achieve academic success. Without the paper I received from your donation, I would of not been able to provide my student with all of the activities we have done this year. I was able to make as many copies for them as I needed, whether it was class packets for a specific subject, tests, worksheets, etc. It was a huge relief knowing I could plan and prepare the best activities for my students without the lack of paper limiting us. In addition, the colorful copy paper and construction paper we received allowed us to do so many creative activities such as arts and craft projects, and directed drawings to go along with the many influential people we learned and wrote about such as Jackie Robinson, George Washington Carver and Michael Jordan. Many of our activities done on the colorful paper has been hung through out our school and classroom. Seeing their hard work displayed has given my students a sense of ownership and pride in their work.
When my students saw all the paper we received, they were filled with excitement. Many of them even shared with me how relieved they were that they knew we didn't have to worry about running out of paper anymore. They also were excited that we could continue to do our creative projects. We have been so limited on construction paper the whole year, when they saw the two colorful packs someone said "now we are going to be able to do a bunch of different things!".
Although the school year is winding down, we will still be be putting our paper to use these last few weeks! One activity I have planned for my students is called "Our Futures Are So Bright, We Need Shades!" In this activity, the students will write about what they hope for their future. Then, they will create their own drawing of themselves. They will then make sunglasses out of construction paper, put them on the drawing of themselves, and draw what they see for their future. Another thing we will be doing is having an award ceremony where each student will receive a certificate for something they "specialize in" such as being a good artist, having good matters, etc. The awards will be printed on the colorful copy paper. Your generosity has allowed me to provide my third graders with so many meaningful and memorable learning activities.”

Stools for School!
Funded Jan 18, 2017Thank you so much for your generosity! My students have been able to use your donations in so many different ways. The stools are such a great addition to our classroom and we are thankful for them every single day! Students are now able to work at the guided reading table and go on the class computers without having to carry their chairs with them through our over crowded classroom. Students are also able to do partner work easily by just grabbing stools and moving to an empty place in the classroom. The flashcards and multiplication wrap-ups are also used regularly and have helped students memorize their times tables!
The students were so excited when they first saw the stools, and they love how colorful they are! They all wanted a chance to sit on them right away. Even now, students sometimes ask if they can use a stool to sit at their desk instead of their regular chair. They were also so excited to use the flashcards and times tables wrap ups. Many students have commented that they have helped them memorize them while having fun. These have been a great resource to have for early finishers who have a few minutes of downtime.
My students and myself have not only enjoyed these resources in the past, but we will continue to enjoy them every single day! Students will have always a resource available to master their times tables. They will also always have the stools to make easy transitions around the classroom!”
