Hands On Learning Through Art
Funded Apr 10, 2014When my students heard that we might be gifted a device that would hold their drying artwork, they became very excited. It was always a challenge to find unused floor space where we would not step on students' hard work. Finally the day arrived! I purposely waited to open the drying rack with my Kindergartners/Transitional Kindergartners. We all "oohh"ed and "aww"ed, myself included. Then, of course I modeled how the paper should go on the shelves, making sure there was room left over for another paper. I asked for a volunteer to try it. Everyone's hand shot up!
I love this drying rack because it is so practical. We will be using this rack everyday. Everyday we use glue and/or paint in our learning. This is K/TK after all! During our twice daily Guided Reading time I do centers and this is when I most need it. I love that it has wheels so that I can move it close to the center where there is a craft going on.
In my classroom every minute counts. Having logistics of classwork to worry about can be time consuming and distracting. Having a drying rack allows our schedule to be more streamlined and efficient. No longer am I interrupted when working with students because there is no space left on the floor. Or worse, being interrupted because someone stepped on another student's work by accident! Our literacy time is blissfully drama free and that is just the way we like it! A big thank you to DonorsChoose, Mr. Vizthum, Jessica, 100 Women in hedge Funds and Anonymous Donor!”
