  • Sight Word Pros!

    Funded Aug 17, 2024

We are deeply grateful for the SnapWords high frequency picture words-we use them everyday! They are helping the students improve their literacy skills-they are becoming stronger at decoding, encoding, and developing phonemic awareness. They are loving the motions that accompany each sight word-helping them remember the word!

We are also using the pocket chart to practice reading basic words like cat, dog, pine, etc. With your generous donations, my students are able to have the materials they need to learn best. Without these materials, it would be more challenging for them to learn. It would also be more difficult for me, as the teacher, the use the best materials possible.

We are now creating sentences, using sand trays, and play dough to further practice our sight words!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Valentin

  • Multilingual Learners Read!

    Funded Sep 21, 2023

Thank you so much for your impactful donations. Through your donations, we have the opportunity to access materials and books that reflect our students' cultural identities. With our next texts, we celebrate and honor both our individual and collective identities. When students see themselves in the media, in texts, in movies, etc., they feel seen and included in the fabric of society.

For Latino Heritage Month, the students had books to share amongst each other-many of them chose those books to read independently. I am grateful that Donors Choose makes acquiring books like these easy. That folks like you believe in the power of literacy to transform lives and educational experiences.”

  • Beautiful Seating

    Funded Aug 2, 2023

We can't thank you enough for the generous gift of the two rugs, cushions, and lap desks! These materials have allowed us the flexibility of working independently and collaboratively. They have afforded us the option of moving to different spaces in our classroom.

The rugs' bright green color and the various cushion colors give our classroom the shine and beauty it needed. The lap desks provide a comfortable place for our students to complete assignments.

We again thank you for your gift of these resources. Your support of our students is deeply appreciated.”

  • A Sharing Space Makes Our Learning Grow

    Funded Dec 29, 2016

We are immensely grateful that because of your generosity, we have a beautiful space to gather as a class. We also have the easel, which allows us to document the different things we are learning-from math to social emotional lessons. Every morning, we gather on the rug to talk about the day ahead, share any thoughts, and to meditate. Throughout the day, we may also gather to listen to a story, share our thoughts about problems we may have, and/or use as a different space to do work. We use the easel every day-whether to demonstrate an addition strategy or to document our thoughts during a read aloud.

The kids were super stoked when they saw the rug. Several of them helped to put the easel together, creating an additional excitement about having these new resources for our community. They felt very proud to be helping!

Among many of the things we do in our classroom, the students are engaging in conversation about strong emotions, about how mindfulness supports us in regulating our emotions. The rug 'area' is the place we gather to share these thoughts-the place where we are encouraged to be our authentic selves and practice active listening. Thank you again for supporting our learning.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Valentin

  • Mindful Movement Builds Community

    Funded Sep 1, 2016

    Dear Donors,

We are beyond grateful for your contribution to our development of self-awareness, compassion, and stillness. Through the practice of yoga and meditation, we are cultivating a sense of love and peace. We are practicing yoga at least three times per week-and we LOVE it! They beg me for yoga! When they first saw the boxes of yoga mats, water bottles, and bouncy balls, they literally yelled. They couldn't wait to open the boxes, and peek inside.

Having these materials has impacted our collaborative community-the other day, one of the students didn't feel like practicing yoga, but she assisted others with their poses. The bouncy balls have been especially supportive to the students who need movement to regulate their energy-the moving on the ball sustains their focus and concentration.

Before the water bottles, they would constantly ask for water-which required them leaving the classroom to get water from a bubbler. Now, they fill their bottles first thing in the morning, and keep hydrated throughout the day without interruptions to instruction and/or learning.

Without your belief in the power of intentional movement and in mindfulness, our opportunities for such practices would not have been possible. We are truly appreciative.”

  • Indoor Recess Time!

    Funded Feb 11, 2013

My students and I are thrilled to have the materials you helped provide us with. When ever they have indoor recess now, they are still able to enjoy their 'free' time with the board games, the origami paper, and the clay.

It is such a joy to see them interacting with each other and the materials. They are eager to help each other out especially when playing Jenga! They also enjoy being creative with both the origami paper/book and the clay.

I am profoundly grateful for your kind donation and in believing in public education. It would be difficult to provide my students with these materials without your support.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Valentin

  • Keeping Organized

    Funded Sep 23, 2011

I am writing to express my gratitude for donating the chair sacks. The students love them! They help keep their materials nicely organized. The students are also able to access with ease their notebooks, folders, and books. Now that they have the sacks, the time they get started on their work is quicker because each student has what they need behind right behind them.

With no desks for the students to hold their belongings, these sacks provide the students a personal space to store their things. It also limits the amount of things they can put in them, which is great because most children tend to want to store everything they possess!

Our school could have never been able to provide these and many of the other materials that make learning easier for our students. I appreciate that you share my commitment to teaching. ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Valentin

  • Comfortable Seating

    Funded Feb 22, 2011

    Dear Donor,

A sincere and huge thank you for the donation to my class. The chair cushions are wonderful! They have provided the students with an added comfort they desperately needed. They love using the cushions to sit throughout the classroom too- whether it's on the rug for reading, doing group work on the tables in the back of the room, or to listen to a story on the computer area. Besides, they add an aesthetic appeal with their beautiful, bold colors!

It is important for students to feel comfortable in order to increase and maximize their learning. The cushions have provided just that. There is no way our school could have afforded these cushions, you donation has made it possible for us to have this privilege. ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Valentin
