If my project is funded, it will allow me to improve the experiences that my students receive in the therapy setting. As their experiences improve, so will their knowledge and skills; hence making them more confident and successful in the speech, social and academic setting. In modern day technology, many worksheet and flashcard speech activities are now offered on an online format in iPad applications. With the undergoing changes in technology, the students are more eager to learn on this platform, as they are now using smart boards, computers, iPads, etc. in their general education classrooms. Integrating technology into the therapy session will help keep many students more motivated. There are many valuable applications for speech therapy that include articulation drills and language activities. It is also very beneficial for minimally nonverbal students, such as those with Autism to use an IPad to help gain spoken language and play based social skills. Non-verbal students can use IPads as an assistive technology device to communicate by using touch to talk apps. The main objective for integrating Ipads into the therapy setting is to enhance expressive and receptive language skills for all K-5 speech students on my caseload. In addition to all of the benefits noted for making my students more successful, the IPad will also allow me the ability to download a host of apps that will cater to the needs of each individual child, as well as provide an opportunity for me as the therapist to collect evidence and curriculum based data to chart progress.
