Jump Aboard the Coding Express!
Funded Nov 28, 2023Thank you so much for your donation to help my class get our Lego kits. They were so excited to get these new "toys" to use in our classroom. We've incorporated them into our Fun Friday activities. The kids love working together to build the tracks given on the cards. Giving them opportunities to build those social skills has been so useful. They have learned to listen to others' ideas, problem solve together, and take turns.
I've loved watching them problem solve together on how to put the tracks together to match the pictures on the cards. They've had to learn how to use the interactive blocks to get the train to stop, slow down, flash the lights, etc. I also love the creativity they come up in creating stories/situations to go along with the track they've built.
In a society where kids seem to more involved in iPads, it's so great to see students having the opportunity to use toys to build creativity. I love that my students get excited about playing with the Legos!”

Funded Aug 13, 2019Thank you so much for supporting our classroom! The kids absolutely love the activities and we have been using them almost every day. It gets them excited to come to school because they think they are just "playing" but they are really learning at the same time. Having fun and engaging activities during stations keeps them focused so that I can work with small groups of children or individually with children. Having such wonderful supporters helps make our classroom a happy place and helps me provide many more opportunities for my students!”

Funded Dec 7, 2018Thank you so much for your donation to help provide more activities for our morning work tubs. The children are always so excited to come into the classroom in the morning and begin their day with something fun. They love having a choice of a game or building activity to begin their morning with. It starts their day on a positive note and they are able to just relax before starting our day. I've definitely noticed a difference in their engagement throughout the day with allowing them to begin their morning this way. My hope is that we can continue to grow our collection of activities so students have even more choices in the morning! Thank you again!”

The Power of Play!
Funded Nov 12, 2018Thank you so much for your donation to complete our project! We were so excited to add more games and activities to our Morning Choice tubs. The kids come into the classroom, excited every morning. They love having so many options of games to choose from. While playing the games, the students are able to communicate and just have a good time before starting our day. I love listening to them talk to one another about their weekends or trying to figure out how to play a certain game or activity together. I also love having the opportunity to sit down and play with them. It's a great way for us to build stronger bonds in our classroom!”

Enchanted Engineering
Funded Aug 10, 2018Our class loved having the Children's Museum come to teach us about engineering. The students learned about the different kinds of engineers there are and the different jobs they have. After learning about how engineers build and different key words, students had 4 different challenges they had to complete with a fairy tale twist. They had to design a new house for the 3 Little Pigs, build a new form of transportation for Cinderella, build a bridge for Little Red Riding Hood, and build a new bed and chairs for the Three Little Bears. They had different materials to use and they had a blast! Each group was so creative in what they built. Some students chose to work together as a team and some chose to work alone, but each group was able to come up with a solution. The 2 presenters that came were very engaged with the kids and clearly excited to be there which in turn, made the kids excited. I even heard a few tell them they wanted to be engineers when they grow up! I think this was a great opportunity for students to get a beginner's look at a future career!”

iSuccess with iPad Minis!
Funded Mar 17, 2018Thank you so much for your donation to fund the purchase of our class iPad. We now have 9 iPads in our classroom that students can use during reading and math stations. There are a variety of apps available that students can use to help reinforce math and reading skills I'm teaching in the classroom and the kids love to play them! Sometimes I don't think they understand they are learning too!
With the addition of another iPad to our classroom, more students are able to listen to reading during our stations. We have access to tons of books that students can read online or have read to them! This is a great opportunity for them to increase their reading time, but also an easier way to find books that may spark their interest.
I'm so appreciative of your contribution to my classroom. The children are too!”

Reading up a Storm!
Funded Jan 26, 2018Thank you so very much for your donations to our project. Our new books were delivered this week and the kids could NOT wait for me to unpack them and add them to our library! Their excitement makes me so happy! Students spend between 20-30 minutes reading independently during our school day. We spend a lot of time at the beginning of the year working on stamina, staying focused, and strategies of good readers. I want students to love reading as much as I do, but it's hard when there aren't any books that grab their attention and make them want to read. I've been incredibly lucky in having parents donate books or being able to find some good ones at a local used bookstore, however, my class this year is in love with several of the newer, popular releases. Unfortunately, these books are hard to find in a used bookstore (because everyone wants them!) and they can be quite pricey sometimes! With your help, I was able to get several of the Dogman books with my class is obsessed with this year!
Each class is different with their reading interests so it's so important to me to keep my library current and updated with books that appeal to them. You never know what may spark their interest and motivate them to keep reading.”

Funded Mar 23, 2017Thank you so much for your donations! We were so excited to get our document camera and stand. The kids have loved being able to use it to show off their writing and pictures. One of our students went on a cruise and created her own picture book. She included pictures and descriptions of what she saw and did on her trip. The document camera came in handy because she was able to put her book under the camera and pop the pictures up on our Smart Board so that everyone could see closely! We also just finished a few lessons on visualizing (building a picture in your mind as you read). During one assignment, students were asked to read a selection and draw a picture of the visualization in their mind of what they saw. Again, the document camera was an excellent tool for students to use to share their illustrations! ALL the other students were engaged and listening because they could actually SEE what the person was sharing! Even some of our more quiet ones have been volunteering to share their work! This tool has already proved to be such a wonderful addition to our tech classroom. I only wish I had thought to ask for one sooner!!”

iSuccess in the Hands of Little Learners
Funded Nov 3, 2016I just wanted to thank you again for helping us get 2 additional iPads for our classroom. Our school is very lucky to have iPad carts that teachers can check out when needed, but nothing compares to actually having the technology in our classroom for us to use whenever the need arises. Having additional iPads gives more students a chance to read books through some different programs our school has purchased for us. Students have the option to choose the books (fiction and nonfiction) that interest them. They are also able to research interesting topics to answer their questions or study up on famous Americans. This year I began implementing Math stations and when students are not working with me, having the iPads allows them to practice math skill in a fun way! There are so many engaging AND beneficial math apps available for students to use. Sometimes they don't even realize they are practicing what I'm teaching them!! I love having the opportunity to show students that iPads can be used in a leaving environment to enhance the skills we are working on in class. Thanks to supportive parents and friends like you, our class iPads can be put into more hands during the day so students can explore!”

Funded Sep 30, 2016Thank you so much for your donations to our classroom. We have really enjoyed having 6 additional Hokki Stools in our classroom. They usually stay at my reading table when I have guided reading groups, however, students are able to use them throughout the day to work. It did take some of us awhile to get the hang of them! We've had a few friends fall off the stools, but no one has gotten hurt! Usually there is a mad dash to get them!
I have noticed a huge difference in engagement during my small reading groups. Students who usually have a case of the "wiggles" are less distracted with what's going around in the room and are able to stay focused on their book longer. AND, the BIG plus is that they aren't distracting others around them by tapping on something or making noises!
My hope is that after Christmas I can create a new project that will allow us to get even more Hokki stools for our classroom. I know students would be able to benefit from having their own Hokki stool to use during the day!”
