• Virtual Learning is Vital!

  Thank you so much for your support of my classroom!! Through your generosity, my students have laptops that they use daily to access the district platforms for virtual learning.

  Daily use and functionality of technology has allowed my students technology skills to improve. This is so essential for this generation of learners! They can log on and navigate the Internet and do their individualized lessons on the district platforms. They can use the programs already installed to practice their keyboarding skills. They are gaining confidence daily because they can swiftly and easily access their various software and Internet applications.

  I have some students who are very adept at navigation through Internet platforms. We have added some extra credit assignments for them; they do a bit of research, and come back to the group to present their findings. They love the control they have in their own learning and the choices they are allowed to make in research topics and presentations.”

• Current Events Reading Opportunities to Understand Our Changing World

  Wow! Thank you so much for the incredible support of my students and their reading. They LOVE the Scholastic News online and weekly newsletter that you funded for our class this year. They look forward to having print materials of their very own. Sometimes it is hard to explain to people who do not work with kids every day, just how excited children can get when they get something at school that they don't have access to at home, and then they get to take it home and keep it, show it off!! That is how my student feel about their Scholastic News!! Thank you soooo much!!”

• Homework Help!

  Thank you so much for you invaluable support of my classroom. The homework folders you helped to purchase will make a huge difference to my students because they are so sturdy and will hold up to student daily use. these folders are already being used daily for homework and daily correspondence to parents. In First Grade it is so important to let parents know what events are happening at school, as well as the specifics of First Grade and their own child's progress. These folders are helping transport those important documents from school to home and back. They should be sturdy enough to last this year and maybe next year!! Thank you so much!!”

• Wiggly Students Need Chairs That Work

  Thank you so much for funding our project.

  When we received the fit chairs, we worked together as teams in our classroom to put them together. We learned about using a small tool to tighten the nuts on the bottom of the chairs. We read the directions together and found the correct parts to put the chairs together. It was a wonderful time the afternoon we successfully assembled our fit chairs.

  We discussed using the chairs during our small group time, allowing for rotation of the chairs between the students. We now have them at our small group table and the students love to show them off to visitors to our classroom.

  In our kindergarten classroom, we try to focus on academics most of the day. This is definitely a challenge for some young learners. By allowing space in the classroom for them to work in small groups and now with adding these cool fit chairs, we allow for the wiggles that develop when we want students of this young age to sit for extended periods of time. The little movement that you need to exert to stay not he chairs is just perfect to get the wiggle out, but still remain focused on their learning.”

• Kindergarten Learning is Fun!!

  Because of your generosity and thoughtful gifts, I was able to get a laptop computer that works with the existing projector in my classroom. I am now able to utilize technology that allows me to show my students some amazing sites on the Internet, as well as use an interactive board.

  This interactive board is so engaging and fun, we loose track of time and have been late for lunch a couple times since we began using it!! The students can use an electronic pen to write and/or select items on the board. We are learning how to use various features together and we all love it!

  Lessons they have used recently and keep asking to return to are the 7 continents and 5 oceans, High Frequency Word games, Counting to 100 and beyond and counting by 5s and 2s. We plan to take a virtual field trip in the near future to watch a live performance of a symphony orchestra!!

• Readers Are Leaders

  I wanted to thank you for your generous donation to Donors Choose and tell you how your gift has changed our classroom. Through your donation I was able to receive 3 Kindle fire tablets for use in my classroom.

  I had already set up an account through Scholastic.com with 25 electronic books, preschool-2nd grade levels. When the Kindles arrived, I downloaded the Storia app through Scholastic so the students could easily log on and use the tablets to read the books. During our small group time, the students have the opportunity to use a tablet to practice their reading. I set up a schedule to endure that the students all have time during the week to use a tablet. With three three tablets, they can easily all get "Tablet Time"! Many of the electronic books that I chose have additional features, like songs, games, etc. that keep the students' interests and encourage them to keep reading or even return to the same book. they really enjoy mastering a book and then showing a friend. some of the books are nonfiction and correlate to the subjects we are teaching in science and/or social studies.

  I look forward to next school year and the opportunity to share these tablets and books with my new group of kindergartners. Their enthusiasm with the technology helps promote their reading practice. Thank you so much for making this possible in my classroom.”
