Welcome to the Community! You're One of Us!
Funded Jun 13, 2021This year, our community has experienced an influx of newcomers. Just in my classroom alone, there are 6 newcomers (not to mention all the other newcomers in the other 60+ classes in the entire school)! Because of this, our school is creating two newcomers pull-out classes to accommodate for their needs. These bilingual dictionaries have been a great help in supporting newcomers during class time. Students are referring to the books to help them better access the material. The book bags have also been wonderful. Just this past month, I've had 3 newcomers alone! They've joined the class in the middle of the day, scared, and some even crying. Being given a book bag helped ease their worries as they got the impression that the class was expecting their arrival and they fit in more with their peers. These materials have greatly helped these students fit in the school community. Thank you again for helping me make my project come to life!”

Funded Jul 9, 2020Thank you so much for donating graphic novels that represent diversity. In my classroom, my students have access to the "special library" which consists only of graphic novels. When they saw that there were new graphic novels, they were over the moon!
Previously, my special library only consisted mainly of "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" and "Big Nate." My students were at first a little intimidated to try a new books, but learned that diversifying characters and books they could read was a good thing. Not only were they able to read about different characters, it was important to me that students got a chance this year to read physical books due to COVID.
Many of my students were extremely ecstatic to find the Greek Mythology books in the special library. Many books in our school libraries are filled with books that I remember even passing by when I was a child in school. It was fulfilling to see students swoon over books--especially ones that they had interest in, excited and eager to read the next in the series.”

Funded Aug 1, 2020Thank you so much for providing my classroom with bilingual literature. As a teacher in a dual language classroom, one of the hardest things to do is find literature that is available in both languages that students can continuously follow the story in. One of my main goals with these books is that I wanted my students to fall in love with reading and with these books they did.
Throughout the year, we scanned these books so that students had the opportunities to first, access these books. Some books, we kept as a read aloud. With students coming into my 5th grade class during a pandemic year, many of them have not read a long chapter book in a while.
I've had students who have fell in love with the books so much that they went out and bought a copy themselves and showed it to me. They said it was now their favorite book. Students who beg me to continue reading because they want to know what happens next. Thank you again for helping my students fall in love with reading and organically build reading skills with these books.”

Funded Jul 18, 2020Thank you for your generous donation. You were able to help provide my classroom with personal use items in order to contain the spread of COVID while teaching in person this pandemic year. In the beginning of the year, I gave each of my students their own baggy with personalized supplies and told them that there were people out there who believed in this class and wanted them to succeed.
They were absolutely elated to know that you cared about my classroom enough to donate these materials for them and excited that they would have a chance at normalcy this school year. Many of them used their materials for the duration of the year and especially loved the personal "whiteboards." Whenever we switched to remote learning due to COVID cases, many of my students were still able to use their whiteboards for at home learning.
These materials really helped students further their learning during in-person learning and remote learning. Furthermore, it gave them a chance to work with tactile materials that they were not used to due to being stationed on technology all the time. Thank you again for helping me bring this project to life and words cannot surely convey how we feel.”

Funded Jun 17, 2020Thank you so much for supporting my project. My students were so excited to walk into a classroom in September, looking and feeling like a classroom they left not so long ago in March. You could see the joy in students eyes as they felt like walked into a place they belonged. This year, I chose a plant theme to exemplify growth and kindness, something that many of my students need ahead of this extremely challenging year.
The Cricut has been used for decorating and creating a warm atmosphere for the classroom. Additionally, it has been used to create personalized bookmarks for my students so they could feel excitement holding and reading actual books borrowed from the classroom, than just reading books online.
The next project for my Cricut will definitely to create math manipulatives and art activities. The math manipulatives can make for a more tactile way for students to learn. This year, students have a completely different look during a lunch period. They have to sit 6 feet apart and have to stay in their seats in the classroom. My cricut will create different art activities that students can engage themselves in during this difficult time.”
