    Funded Sep 23, 2021

Thank you for your contributions to my classroom and students! It was a great way to start our back to school year. My classroom environment was transform to meet my students social emotional needs on a daily basis, my students are excited to use all the materials and simply play in the library or to take breaks as needed. It is rewarding to see and let them engage in role plays that brings out joy and laughter. We used your book donations during read aloud to share our feelings and stories there favorite story is "the color monster" they read it every single day!

Your donations has also helped us build a stronger relationship as we continue to connect and rebuild with each other. During our leadership days student created materials that reflected their learning and used resources to showcase learning and growth, they also performed various dances and used your donations to display their art. Thank you a million times for your generosity and most of you kindness we are grateful to be have had your support and look forward to our next project.”

  • ELL's Get Ready!

    Funded Dec 10, 2020

My student are using all their new resources to keep up with all the changes that transpired during the school year in person remote and hybrid instruction has been extremely challenging and sad to say the least. During lunch my students use the coloring books to find some time to rest their minds and do something relaxing it help them learn their negative thought and have some time to just do something for fun. The air purifier is used daily to clean the air as student rotate classes. My students were very excited when they saw all the goodies, they enjoy their pens and most of all the read aloud books I get to read to them during our time. Our next step it to take and use our tools to practice mindfulness during the day. It is important that apart from academic they learn how to take care of there emotions and to pay it forward.”

  • In Living Color

    Funded Aug 25, 2017

It has been a proactive first half of the school year, my English Learners have been using all the materials to build on their skills. My students learning environment is rich of material that are interactive and are great in quality. They often say " Ms. Melo these pencils don't break like the others" to say that they are appreciative of your support is not enough.

The were excited to see the classroom set up full with new materials on a daily basis. They touch, use all of the material freely, as we are a classroom that synergies daily.

One of the highlights of my classroom, was when I place highlighter s in front of my entering students and showed them how they are able to use it according during our close reading time. At first they were highlighting everything and anything they could, with some modeling and prompting they were able to learn how and when to used the highlighters. It was really amazing to see them interact with each other and have relevant conversations, even if it was about highlighters. Being that most of my students primary home language is not English seeing them use their oral skills to display understanding and excitement was really a sight to see.

When my students enter our classroom not only are they excited to use the printer, buzzer, markers, etc, they have take full ownership of their learning environment allowing me to teach them effectively and to their individual learning style. During our non-fiction unit students were able to use and create detail books rich of color. With all of your support and donations. We are currently working on realistic fiction writing unit, I aim to introduce some of the interactive block and products donated to help with their overall comprehension.

Thank you for your kindness and please be assure that my students are happy, grateful and blessed to have so many of you kind people to support their English language leaning. You all rock I am truly grateful for all the generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Melo

As ENL Teacher I teach a diverse community of English Language Learners. I focus in teaching not only academics but also cultivating the love for learning , teaching my students great character, and empowering them to be independent, self efficient and most of all kind. Because my students have varying learning styles, needs and are in different academic levels, it is imperative that I find ways to differentiate my classroom in order to provide a welcoming rich learning environment. It is my responsibility to make connections with all my students and understand their culture and life in order to teach them and deliver an instruction that respects and honors them individually. My students deserve and equal opportunity to learn regardless of their race and cultural background. My students come from a low income neighborhood but despite their hardship they are eager to learn and come to school with a smile.
