I have found that the one of the main causes of boredom and misbehavior inside the classroom is that students are having to sit at least 6 hours of day on a hard, stiff plastic chairs. So when I have asked the students why they keep getting up at random times, leaning and pushing their chairs as far as their little arms could reach, or why they are sitting cross cross on their chairs or slumping 1/2 of their bodies on the desk, many of their responses have been, "the chairs are hard, my body hurt, I get tired of seating on this chair, my head and back and hurt". Hearing those responses over and over again, made it clear that my students needed other types of opportunities and tools to help their minds and bodies active.
My ideas were not enough, so I asked my students to come up with ideas that would help them stay focused and active. Their ideas ranged from asking me to bring a couch, removing all desk and working on the floor, but the one they all agreed on and became very excited was for me to get them seats that were not hard and seats in which they could move. To get even a few, that they would share throughout the day so that ¨everyone would have a turn stretching, moving their bodies without getting in trouble.¨
These Kore wobble stools will do just what the students are needing and wanting. The seats will allow the students to engage their core muscles, resulting in less boredom, disruption, body aches, and help them focus on the academic lessons. In addition, this will give students an opportunity to seek for other non-traditional methods that will help them stay focused and pain free.
