  • Family Gaming Events

    Funded Mar 1, 2019

I am sorry that this letter has been so delayed. I have been very busy at work and at home with my 2 year old. I just want you to know that my students and I are having a blast due to this project being funded. Events at our school have been a success with the Nintendo Switch. We have been able to use the gaming system as an incentive at our school and we have seen amazing results. Our students love to play video games together. They have made new friends and built relationships that will last long after they leave our school. None of this could have happened without your generosity. Again, thank you so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Hurst

  • Reading Like a Professor

    Funded Nov 13, 2018

Thank you for your generous donation to our "Reading Like a Professor" project! This is my first year teaching AP and when I was researching materials to help prepare my students for the AP test, this resource kept appearing. Many teachers use it to help build a strong foundation of background knowledge with their students. After reading the book myself, I realized why it was such a popular choice and knew that I needed to get copies of it for my students. With the help of all of you, I was able to do that.

The background knowledge acquired from this book is helping my students better understand the deeper meaning that much of the literature we are reading is full of. My students now know that heart disease is significant in literature as well as different seasons and much more. They will continue to keep this novel with them throughout the semester while we are reading others to help them better analyze literature.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Hurst

I have been building a library for my students since I started. I frequently pick up books from thrift stores and anywhere else that I can find good books at good prices. I am working to bring more engaging books into the classroom that are required reads. It will be much easier for me to keep my class engaged with the novels that we are reading when they are books that they enjoy. I remember hating reading as a child. I couldn't relate to the characters in the books that we read in class. The novel that I have chosen is one they want to read. It's one they can relate to. It's an absolute classic, as well!
