Exit One Laundry Service
Funded Jul 20, 2021Thank you for your donation to my Exit One Laundry Service project. I was amazed at the outpouring of support for this project. My school is located at the end of the Florida Turnpike and has the nickname of Exit One. The majority of the students in my school receive Free or Reduced lunch. The purpose of this project was to provide students in need of clean laundry the opportunity to have their clothes washed while they are in school. No child should be ashamed of not having clean clothes!!
Due to the sensitive nature of this issue , the commencement of the laundry service has been slow. In recent weeks however, several teachers have approached me to inquire about having jackets/hoodies washed. It is my hope that as the weather cools more business will come our way. We have a cleaning and recycling service in the school. We are washing the cleaning cloths as well as the aprons the students wear to provide my students the experience of washing clothes.
Thank you again for your generous contribution and continued support for my students as they prepare for lifelong independence.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Dahl

Funded Jul 12, 2021On behalf of my adult learners... THANK YOU for your kind and generous donations to my STEPping Back Into School Project. We have been organizing and rearranging the classroom to make the most of the items we received through your donations. It has been a welcome change to be in the building with all of my students after nearly 18 months.
We started the year of cleaning, organizing, and rearranging and are nearly finished. The donations poured in for several days and my students loved going to the Copy Room to retrieve them and bring them back to the classroom. Our classroom is beginning to look less like a traditional classroom and more like a vocational classroom.
Your donation will enable me to assist my students with numerous tasks that will help them in their transition from school to adult living. This is a very crucial time in their education and you've made my job easier!! Thank you... thank you... thank you!!!”

Funded Aug 12, 2020Covid created an entirely different school year that could never have been imagined. This project was written with the anticipation that all my students would return to the building. Sadly, less than half of them returned. The remainder attended school via ZOOM.
My students that did attend in person became very responsible in cleaning and organizing their own workspaces at the end of each school day. Thanks to your generous donations, we were able to have all the supplies and resources necessary to allow them to clean, sanitize, and organize. I have supplies remaining and will be using them in a few short weeks when the 2021-22 school year begins.
Thank you and stay safe and healthy.”

Funded Mar 19, 2020This was quite a school year!! I wish I had been able to utilize the printer to teach my students how to scan, copy, and print. But as you know Covid-19 hit and all plans had to change abruptly.
I think the most difficult part is many of my students have not been in the classroom in 15 months. There are only so many Life Skills that can be taught virtually. I did my best and used innovative ways to reach my students virtually. I was able to demonstrate using the printer via ZOOM in hopes that in the Fall when my students return they will be able to transition from seeing it on video to actually using it themselves.
Thank you again for your support!!”

STEPping Into Paper Making
Funded Aug 3, 2019Words can never express the gratitude and appreciation I have for those who were kind and generous enough to donate to my project. Donor's Choose has allowed me to introduce projects and materials to my students that I would never be able to fund on my own. Being a Exceptional Education Teacher for 36 years has been a rewarding and fulfilling career. I only wish I had an opportunity to experience the generosity of Donor's Choose donors my entire career.
The materials have arrived and we are well on our way to using them in the classroom. Making paper is a process and we have begun the collection of recycled paper. The hum of two shredders is currently serenading my classroom. The students are eager to use the large paper making mold as well as the paper press. I am anticipating that to begin sometime next week.
As the students unpacked the paper press, they were filled with questions about what it was? how do we use it? what does it do? Using it next week will I'm sure be the highlight of their week!! Once again, thank you for your generosity, support, and kindness. It has not, nor will it ever, go unnoticed!!”

Funded Aug 21, 2018Thank you just doesn't seem to be powerful enough!! Your generosity and compassion has led to my students experiencing a new and exciting type of gardening. Last year we implemented a class garden in the front of the school. This year I wanted to try hydroponic gardening as several of my students have issues related to the heat and sun.
When the Aero Garden first arrived my students were eager to take it out of the box. Two of my students took over and assembled it completely on their own. After that we began setting it up immediately. It so happened to arrive on the Friday of a long weekend, so Tuesday morning when we arrived there were several pods that were already growing. The students were excited!!
We now have both gardens up and running and producing vegetables. Our next step will be to begin cooking and introducing the students to healthy cooking and eating. Thank you for your generosity and support. My students and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts!!!”

Stepping Out
Funded Feb 26, 2014Thank you for funding my program. We have been working hard and using the new resources you have graciously given to us. Some of the activities we are doing are; learning to do laundry, from simply folding clothes to washing and ironing clothes. The shredder has been used quite extensively as we shred papers for various offices in the school. We have started making recycled paper using the shredded paper. The ink has been used as printing in a Special Education is mandatory!!!
Again, thank you for your interest, your support, and your generosity!!!”
